Doris the color is the same as for choosing what color to paint your house. The lighter the color the more it reflects the sun, darker colors absorb heat from the sun. A medium color woudl both reflect and absorb heat but not as much as either light or dark would. The house roof here is plain galvanized color but our front porch roof is green. DH likes color in case you all can't tell from the colors he paints the bee hives but I don't think they gave him a choice when the house was built. Or else he was too cheap at that time to go with color Hilarious! Our neighbor put bright red roofs on some of his barns and white on one or two of them. And yes you need to check on how many layers it's legal to have on a roof due to the weight.

DH also put roofing metal on the sides of our house when he had to redo one side due to warping of the wood a few years ago. It's charcoal grey and we both love it.
