By Sharon Brown on April 15, 2010

It was May, 2008 when we lost a dear Dave's Garden friend who lived in Alaska. Several of us had known Carol Eads very well through her posts on DG, and our hearts were hurting when she passed. But the story does not end there. I traveled to Alaska to build a Memory Garden for Carol, and in doing so, I discovered a whole new world filled with wonderful people and unusual's my story.

The wheelbarrow is awesome, the planted shoes are amazing and the Poppies are breathtaking! Ava and are both really loving and compassionate people to keep the memory going, and obviously Carol is very loved. Thank-you!

What a beautiful story and tribute to a gardening friend! Had you ever personally met Carole? I know that she was looking down from heaven with a smile on her face at your generous offering to build a memory garden in her name. I will have to print that article off or save it to my favorites. You know you always wonder what people will save or do to eulogize one. Sharing those memories helps you celebrate one's life and friendship. Thank You for sharing this story with us readers.

Hi Pippi,

I had only met Carol online, and that was just a few months before her death. We spent a lot of time talking both by phone and via the 'net, but I had never met her face to face. I felt that I knew her pretty well anyway.

Thanks for your insight into an emotional subject. You are so right about wondering how best to remember someone. With Carol, it was easy. She had all those crazy planters and innumerable plants and when I visited her home, I realized she had been surrounded by them for years.

Thank you, too, for commenting.

Hello Pippi....

I'm Carol's sister, Ava. I want to thank you also for bringing me back to this article. It brings back such wonderful memories of my sister. Of course a walk through the garden does the same, but it it also makes me happy and proud to know that because of Carol's online friends, I had and will always have the support and friendship of such caring people as our Shar.

Thank you again, Shar. Love you.

The best part about meeting Carol online, was that I also got to meet her family, and to become a part of it. It's so good to be able to hand pick your 'sisters'.

Thanks, Ava.
Love right back to you.
