Unfortunately, it knows it's my favorite and so is always shy about making tubers, or tubers that keep for me. The color is a rich coral with golden glow and can mesmerize from 50 feet to mere inches away. I've logged about 40 solid hours staring at it. The petals are orderly perfection, blooms about 6" around on 4' plants. Hillcrest Kismet: put it in the shopping cart if you find it!
Ravishing. I tried to grow it last year, but the place we were living, it rains half the summer, and the sun is as scarce as HK tubers, so it sulked horribly.
I'm really excited about dahlias again, now that I live somewhere it gets sunny more often than 3 days a season...

What to recommend, alizeus? Name a color. I aim for cutting flowers or just plain glorious blooms, even if sparse in number. Painted Lady is at the top of my list for cutters that are glorious. Blooms are about 5" across on a tall plant of 5' or more, and each is really wonderful to behold, in general.
That is BEE-OOO-TEEFUL, Pooch. Hillcrest Kismet...searching for it now. Logged 40 hours staring at it? That's how I feel about Salsa Picante! Pathetically, I don't even have Salsa, so I've logged hours staring at YOUR picture of it! Psycho?...maybe...

Welcome, welcome Carrie!
Well, I didn't count the hours spent ogling HK, could've been 50 :snort and chortle: Some varieties just lend themselves to further appreciation and Salsa Picante is certainly another one but in fiery colors.
In the darkest reds, I've really liked Black Cat and Karma Choc (below) for velvety black-red petals and rock-solid maroon stems for cutting.
Suddenly, I'm getting all twitterpated for Spring and planting time! :)
