Nice clear yellow shade. Yes, I think it is a nice plant. My Narrows Andie is opening today. (Just got back from the city and haven't been out to the patch...sun is about to go down.) I think Narrows Andrew is a softer yellow but we will see tomorrow. Narrows Dawn Marie was pretty pale at first but is getting darker/brighter now.I'm liking these but think mine are a bit on the small side. Fertilizer project lined up for next week.
Nice to see our old friend Kelvin Floodlight blooming this week and we are getting our first few blooms of Lismore Moonlight just now that is just darn cute !
I'm an official Yellow convert
Ran into more yellow prejudice at the National show. One cut flower vendor cannot give away his yellow flowers let alone sell them. I can hardly believe it as we used to sell lots of yellow flowers. Margaret's best in show vase at National show had 3 or 4 yellow flowers in it. If people do not use yellow flowers in bouquets, they are missing out.
We like to place a sign on our porch that says: We are in the garden. Really, we are always in the garden.
That's a great shot Drew , all those shades and shapes together .
Our yellow dahlia got distributed pretty evenly throughout the gardens and they look great , I like the way they pop and stand out on their own while also accentuating all the pinks, reds, and oranges .
At the show we got to see Wyn's Neon Dream right next to Inland Dynasty .... Neon Dream is a " Must Try " for next season
The Neon Dream blooms we saw were larger than Inland and had a really neat form , I believe the color shade was almost identical . You could see a vase of those blooms from outer space.
I have more huge yellow flowers than I have ever had before. I have Inland Dynasty, which I have grow for years, but planted it in a sunnier area and the blooms are much bigger, have Harvest Moonlight, which I got last year in a trade, but it didn't bloom, and I had forgotten that it was a big guy, and ended up planting 3 Kelvin floodlights, so I could use two for the "challenge".
I don't usually have lots of 10" blooms, but this year they just keep coming. Its fun.
Harvest Moonlight looks nice , I'm planning to leave a clump of Kelvin F in the ground over winter to try . Some people a few blocks over left theirs out in a giant pot over last winter and I see it's growing pretty well for them .
Geof have you tried AC Chicken Ranch yet ? I'm loving ours , nice tall plants with lots of B sized blooms . In the photos it looked quite delicate and possibly frail to me but the blooms last quite well when cut and can take a pounding from heavy wind and rain yet still look nice and the bugs seem to be leaving it alone for the most part . I give it four stars and two thumbs up :-)
Stopped off at Bob Romano's garden after the Pgh show this weekend...
He preps his blooms up to a week before a show with dowel rods, using foam to keep the rod from chaffing. This bloom was forgotten in the cutting frenzy.
A pale yellow & peach? He said he probably won't grow this one again, but I was unclear of the reason. It was huge.
This was part of his 2nd year 'heartbreak row,' where he will only keep a couple out of about twenty seedlings. Check this one out at the larger size by clicking it... Neat variegation and petal formation. This one is to be composted.
Here's a first or second year seedling that made it to the head table...
