Starting the Dahlia Season forum: Too late to start seeds?

I had a lot of family emergencies this spring, and I never got my dahlia seeds planted. If I put them in now, do you think I can get some blooms this summer? Or would it be better if I saved them for next year?

I don't remember where you garden at but I would think you could treat them as pot tubers and if they bloom fine, otherwise, save what you got this year to grow on next year.

....I can get some blooms this summer? Open center types bloom early. Dahlias grown from seeds tend to bloom earlier and fully double ones will bloom in September easily. Of course, we are in balmy Oregon.
Too many flowers, not enough time!

Thanks Guys!
I was mourning my seeds for no reason.
I'll get the seeds in the ground asap. I live in balmy Seattle so there will probably be sun in september.

OH yes, with luck you can even get them past the end of October! Plenty of time to get at least a sampling of the blossoms.

Beautiful day today for working out. I am on the Tacoma Waterfront and we've been through PT Defiance Park If I were home I would be planting out today I think. I'll start that after we get home on Tuesday night. It looks like the Dahlia Garden at Pt Defiance is all tilled and ready to go but not planted yet.
