We enjoy breeding new dahlias!
One of these days, Dan's Dahlias will sell Hollyhill Ripple a flower that he is using for cut flowers instead of Blackberry Ripple. About the same colors and Hollyhill Ripple has better stems and does not decline in quality after the first flush of flowers like Blackberry Ripple. I have been growing it for 7 years now but never offered it for sale. Gave some stock to Dan a few years ago and he likes it. I grew just a couple of plants of it last year. Not enough room for everything. And Hollyhill Bewitched is one of Margaret's favorites and I am supposed to grow about 20 plants of it instead of the (1) we had this last year. Too many people ordered it and I could not say no and ended up with just one tuber. I thought I could get some from Old House Dahlias and he lost most of his to the big freeze and so only one got planted.
We like to place a sign on our porch that says: We are in the garden. Really, we are always in the garden.
