Susie, THere are a lot of rescue groups out there and the animals are in private homes (foster Homes)) You can gain a lot of insight into the personality quirks of the animal by talking to their foster family. Many if not all also have a trial period so if the animal does not work out it can be returned to find a better fit. I think this is a good way to go , being a foster home for some 13+ years. Shelters also have some great pets , but it is a little more potluck and some shelters don't work with the people after the adoption, you are on your own. Having said that my last two dogs were from the local shelter and have been great companion. Good luck on finding a great match Cinda |
