| 2010 The BP oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico was the worst in U.S. history with a loss of 92-185 million gallons. A thriving economy based in the region was and continues to suffer with untold dollar and quality of life losses 1992 Uzebekistan was the site of the worst land based spill with 88 million galons lost on land. The oil was absorbed back into the land with little environmental impact. 1991 Saddam Hussein (Iraq) forces attached Kuwait and left their oil industry on fire and devastated. An estimated 250-336 million gallons were lost into the Persian Gulf and surrounding lands. It is the worst oil disaster in our history. 1989 The Exxon Valdez event March 24 1989 with a tanker spill of 11 million gallons. This is was worst U.S. oil spill prior to the 2010 BP rig explosion 1983 During the Iran-Iraq War a tanker collided iwth an offshore drinning platform. Seven months later the well was capped. Additionally, during the War Iraq attacked a well and set it on fire. Two years later the fire was extinguished. Both incidents totaled a loss of about 80 million gallons 1979 Ixtoc oil platform in the Gulf of Mexico accident leaked for about a year with a total loss of about 140 million gallons. | I'm posting this to the OIL DISASTERS thread because it ultimately points an accusing finger at fossil fuels as the "cause" of these disasters noted in the video. This is a video presenting the notion of connections between "climate change" and use of fossil fuels and the "natural disasters that have plagued the Earth over the last year, in particular.
