I put this in the New Technologies Forum because, well, it's new. Pertains to solar cells but the technology is new.

MIT research shows that the introduction of a genetically engineered virus, M13, to semi-conducting nanotubes can enhance the performance of solar cells by about 30%. The virus (purple squiggles in the image) can be used to “control the arrangement of the nanotubes on a surface keeping the nanotubes separate so they can’t short out the circuits”. Prevents the nanotubes from tangling allowing for better electron flow through the cells.

This is pretty technical but I find it fascinating that scientists do this stuff!
