I put this in the New Technologies Forum because, well, it's new. Pertains to solar cells but the technology is new. MIT research shows that the introduction of a genetically engineered virus, M13, to semi-conducting nanotubes can enhance the performance of solar cells by about 30%. The virus (purple squiggles in the image) can be used to “control the arrangement of the nanotubes on a surface keeping the nanotubes separate so they can’t short out the circuitsâ€. Prevents the nanotubes from tangling allowing for better electron flow through the cells. This is pretty technical but I find it fascinating that scientists do this stuff! http://www.physorg.com/news/2011-04-solar-power-viral-virus-... http://esciencenews.com/articles/2011/04/25/mit.researchers.... ![]() Image: Matt Klug, Biomolecular Group (published in all the articles I read re this subject) "There are only two ways to live your life.
