Zena Systems is a Japanese company established in 1997. They’ve developed a concept design of a 50 meter, six-sided tower for wind collection and electricity production with ground based generators and power storage facilities. Depending on the units kilowatts of electricity produced relative to land mass needed per plant I can see the wisdom, conceptually, of “building up”. Space saver.

Apparently they have a Japanese patent as of December 2006 and are going global with patent applications.
