Anita - Tried that, didn't work. Only thing that worked for ME personally was cardio DAILY. I downloaded this book: Visual Impact for Women (http://visualimpactforwomen.com/) I had been going to the gym FAITHFULLY minimum 3x weekly for 7 months with NO results. All I had lost was my sense of human and ton of money to a personal trainer. I was doing the small meals, eating breakfast, working out in the morning, blahblahblah. NO results. I was SOOOOOO discouraged. :( I was wandering around on the net one day & found this. Read some excerpts of it and it made perfect sense. Most exercise regimes are designed for MEN. MEN had different bodies than women do (really?). That's why, when my husband did as much exercise & followed the same diet I did, he lost like 20lbs & I didn't lose squat. So I read this and started to follow it. It actually helped. I was seeing a loss, not just waterweight, but my clothes actually were no longer fitting "right" (getting really baggie) Noticed even a change in my ankles.. no longer swollen at night. Now this is my regime:

Morning: get up 7:10am for work, get dressed, go to work
At work, around 9:10amish, eat minimum 5 sticks 5" long celery (yuck). I take the following supplements:

Alive! Multi for women http://www.amazon.com/Natures-Way-Potency-Tablets-60-Count/d...
Calcium 1000mg/Magnesium 500mg/Zinc90mg
Triple Boron http://www.amazon.com/Source-Naturals-Advanced-Triple-Capsul... (this is for 'female' problems.. PMS)
Vitamin E 1000I.U.
CLA 2000mg http://www.amazon.com/Spring-Valley-Softgels-2000-Tonalin/dp...
Vitamin D3 5000I.U.

I take these with 1 liter of water

Lunch is usually some kind of left over from the night before. Could be anything. Today was rotisserie chicken leg

During work, I do my "office workout" (see post above) with a MINIMUM of 100 squats. 25 squats & 20 lunges takes 2 minutes (I do a set while lunch is cooking in the microwave). I drink a minimum of 2 liters of water at work. No coffee (can't stand it), no soda ( Crying )
Dinner can be & usually is something heavy protein and now very light carb. However, I do NOT deny myself carbs (I did the ketosis thing, and it didn't work for me at all http://lowcarbdiets.about.com/od/faq/f/whatisketosis.htm). For instance, tonight's dinner is chicken fajitas w/tortillas, cheese, & salsa. If I want it, I eat it. But in moderation, which means using the small fajita or taco sized tortillas rather than the big "burrito" sized ones. And eating only 2 when I could easily snarf 3. If I want a cookie, I'll eat A cookie. Not a bag of cookies.

And I'm gonna say that I've lost probably 10lbs in a month doing it this way. It's not a ton of weight (on my frame, 10lbs isn't anything.. that's like 1/2 lb on a normal sized woman), but it's more than I lost before.

But this is how *I* did it. I'm not going to say it's the only way, or the best way. I'm just going to say that it's how it worked FOR ME.

(and I love this machine: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EbO_MCTyg0A .. the Precor AMT 100. It's my machine of choice at the gym. I usually try for a minimum of 45 minutes but have gone as far as over an hour on it.)

How long have you been doing the squats and lunges daily? Have you noticed more muscle tone in your legs?

Anita - My legs are naturally huge. When I was in college a thousand years ago, I was a major swimmer & did 2-3 miles daily in the pool. I've *tried* to keep my legs up, but with age, they've gotten a *little* flabby. But with the squats & lunges, I *am* noticing a difference in the amount of cellulite. My "saddlebags" (fatty deposits on the upper inner thighs) are almost gone, my hamstrings are getting VERY toned, and my butt's less cottage-cheesy. DH *is* seeing a big difference. I've been doing the squats / lunges not truly faithfully, but as often as I feel up to it for about a .. month & half? This isn't gonna be some quick-thing.. it's amazing how fast it'll come back on once you stop!! Grumbling Grumbling But, like today, I've done 100 squats & 30 lunges on each leg. My legs *do* hurt (especially the quads when I get to the 20th or 21st squat per set), but it's nothing I can't live with.. just a mild ache. Now if I can just figure out some way to work off the mid section!!! But I *DID* notice that doing 1 hour of elliptical 4x weekly, plus doing leg lifts (PAINFUL yucky hate them... lay on the ground flat, then lift your legs straight up, lower them as much as you can w/o them hitting the ground, then lifting back up.. I could do 15-20 before I *HAD* to call it quits. This works the muscles in the lower abdomen and I *was* noticing a toning effect there. I'm not kidding myself & saying I was developing a 6-pack, no way in ANYONE'S imagination would that be there. But I was noticing a more "defined" look in the ab area.) 2-3x weekly.. painful & sweaty, but it worked. I just need some kind of incentive as I really don't have one. Married to a guy who prefers more... bigger? women so I can't say that becoming eyecandy (HA!) would be a good incentive.. don't have any weddings or anything like that to go to, never going to a reunion, so don't have that for an excuse, married so can't get a boyfriend...

Anita - this style of eating/time of exercise is right for me, too. Of course, as Toni points out, this is not right for everyone (thank goodness for uniqueness among us humans, eh?) Big Grin Rolling on the floor laughing

Skiekitty....take up bodybuilding. I did. Big Grin

The reason the men can lose more/faster/better is TESTOSTERONE!!! It's a bear, when you are busting your kiester and not showing anything "leaving", and HE is losing right and left. Grrrr...............been there, done that.

Due to my change in lifestyle, I have gained a whole lot more that I ever wanted to. Well, I didn't want to gain ANY, but I knew there would be some lard added. Now I have to rid my corpse of it......at least 30 pounds, and 40 would be better for competition. Going to start my new workout routine..........TapOut......probably next week. Hopefully I will be back in competition shape come late April.

You are motivating me! I'm going to pick up 100 per day, 4 sets, 25 reps, leg lifts, squats, push ups, lunges, crunches and planks. That should take up 8 hours of my day. LoL If I am losing fat and building muscle at some point the flab is going to leave and the muscle/tone should shine through. LoL I'm noticing more cottage cheese and jingle, so toning up will not hurt me a bit.

I measured myself for myfitnesspal. I'm really curious to see my weight loss affects the inches lost.

Measurements are what's golden in my book. The scale doesn't move much for me 'cuz I'm replacing fat (HA!) with muscle. But when I go from a 43" waist to a 41" waist, that's a HUGE thing for me. I went from a 54" hip to a 51" hip, ribcage (on the bra line below the boobs) stayed right where it was, and my arms went from a 14" to a 12.5" in about 3 months of doing the cardio / squat thingie. But the scale slid down less than 10lbs during that time (fluxed up & down, of course).

And I *want* a boyfriend, but that's not right. Lovey dubby Lovey dubby
