We have the same problem here Susan. We always keep several jugs of water on standby when we know a major storm is coming in....and a 5 gallon bucket for the potty to flush....
3 seasons ago I began to sell potted perennials at Farmers Mkt, and added in some Dahlia cuts. This Fall I let my nursery license expire and will concentrate on cut flowers only. And I no longer go to Market regularly. It took a bit of nerve to walk into a Florist and sell my cut flowers, but I did just that 2 years ago. Life evolves and I discovered that I love selling to Florists and wedding planners. Now I am going to concentrate on only that, having 3 florists that I sell to. There is a huge trend in our country for locally grown products. As my knowledge/experience expands, so do my plans..... Too bad daylight hours don't expand too.
The business now includes more than just flower cuts, also in demand are twigs, greens, branches, grasses, leaves. Checking out what the florists have in their coolers and just wandering around my yard has opened up many possiblilites.
Growing and harvesting at the correct times is crucial, and have found that research pays off BIG TIME !! Vase life is so important. And selling a perfect product is too.
No greenhouse, just a small hoop house: 8X6X6, that is used only in late Spring. This year I made a seed starting light system out of PVC, it worked wonderfully.
Support bacteria, it's the only culture many folks have.
