Thanks Nancy, I'll go check that cubit out. DH is starting Chantix this morning!! Hurray! Hurray!

We just had a family member pass unexpectedly on Thursday. I couldnt even imagine having to do the executor stuff while grieving, that would put me completely over the edge.

LOL, I have cut down on the ciggy's because of cubits. I don't allow myself to smoke in the house so the more time on the computer the less time for smoking Whistling

WEll, I'm not saving on cigs anymore Crying too much going on around here to stay quit right now. I'll try again in a few months. DH DID quit, about 3 weeks ago and well, if we both are quitting at same time we just might hurt each other Rolling on the floor laughing This is the first time he's ever quit, and he smoked 2 packs a day. So I'll let him get thru the hard times first and then quit again.

I haven't bought any plants this year, other than some tomato plants, a Japanese Eggplant plant, a couple of miscellaneous 6 packs of veggies and seeds for herbs. I bought 5 bags of compost peat for planting.

Several years ago, I decided if I couldn't eat it, I didn't need to buy it.... plantwise, anyhow. I shudder to think how much money I have saved just sticking to my guns on that one. Last year, the only plant I bought was a Yesterday Today and Tomorrow tree. And if I remember right, there was an occasion attached to that plant and Rick told me to go pick out something. Big Grin

Janet, I agree ...hardly buy any plants I can't eat anymore either with the exception of what I've been working on for years: perennial gardening. I did get a very good deal this spring on some daylilly fans on sale from a grower that was eliminating a greenhouse location but even then, I co-opted with other friends to minimize shipping. Saved quite a bit there and they are zone hardy and should be back and multiplying over years. By now, after some mistakes but much success, this yard goes off all season long, early spring thru autumn with great variety of texture and color at very little added expense. I have one area of things 'dug from the woods'; I also have made a little wildflower meadow spot...small but free. And, trade some with friends. Even when I add something, I like it here so much that I don't spend money going other places, I'd rather hermit and entertain my spirit playing with the dawg and doing maintenance. Too...I like to give myself SOME presents!

I don't want to clog this thread up with a bunch of pictures but (for flavor) here is one of Inky watching me rake in fall; a thing I enjoy from the time the first leaves come down 'til my back needs a rest or the snow flies (WECF).

How's that foot AnnMarie?

I have been doing "yard weeds" on the smokes and feel better than I have in many years. I buy most of them at the health food stores and still spend less than I did on tobacco.

Hubby still smokes Marlboros and it kills me when he tells me to go in and buy him a pack. I can roll an entire carton of my weeds for what he pays for 2 packs of his smokes.

Jamie, that is a great photo. Don't ever think you're gonna clog things up with a photo. Most of us around here are visual folks and love photos. Gotta ask.... what's WECF?

HA ha! WECF? Whatever comes first.

Truly am I in awe of your quitting tobacco. I printed out the thread (recipes) and they are still here...someday...maybe when cold weather comes. That is when I am the worst smoker anyway (trapped inside). I don't smoke all that much when there is stuff to do outside an never in public. When I was working in management I didn't smoke all day...BUT...the car, the bath, when reading, that kind of stuff. AND, set me down in front of a campfire with a good drink or two and I am helpless.

I DO have a 'connection' though. There's a local liquor/cigs outlet that I have been going to for a while. Even as prices rose, the owner would give me pretty cheap prices for volume purchases in cash. Not ignorant, I know he makes out somehow. Not asking questions though.

Know how I saved money today? I fixed the stupid shower.....no handy person or plumber. Now I can be stupid anytime I want! Rolling on the floor laughing naw...I meant clean.

Rolling on the floor laughing I'm like you Jamie, I hate spending the money on a handyman. So when I was single for all those years (20) I would buy a how-to book and ask the hardware store man a bazillion questions. I always figured if I messed it up real bad...well I'd pay someone to replace it after I broke it real good! The few times I had to pay to repair or replace, I was right there watchin the guy and takin notes! Hilarious! Of course this was when I was young and fit...and those plumbers/handymen were more than happy to stand there and answer my questions Big Grin Whistling

Foot is much better today! Hurray! no crutches, no cast... still cant put all my weight on it, so I'm still taking it kinda easy. I did clean up my iris bed, trimmed my brugmansia that was going crazy, and pulled some weeds. But most of this was done while I was sitting on my bum in the bed lol!

Yes, amazing how the service orientation changes with age...good point Anjl! Hilarious!

Glad your foot is better...take it easy though. Remember, right now you DO have the opportuntiy to use a bell...THAT doesn't happen very often. Ring for a good book, a cold drink, and an icepac...com'on...exploit it!!!...before it gets too well. Whistling

JaeRae that is a beautiful picture, would look great framed on my wall. Big Grin

I always had to budget our money, guess I got that from my mom. But, I enjoy thrift stores and scanning out the dumpsters to see what I can find for crafts. I've spend a lot on craft material through the years so I have to start using it up and NOT buy anything until I have done that.

Thanks Pegi. What you see there is mums at seasons end, but behind them are phlox and obiedient plant that are just finishing up. I don't have many recent pictures though; I need to get a digital camera because as I go through the seasons here, I miss making record in a timely fashion and then because every year I add plants, it makes it hard to recall the next time I look for a hole.

Anyway, I try to place perennials where they will fit in height habit and bloom time so that there is always some color whever the eye turns. For instance, in one small semi-shady area I have daffodils, tulips, bleeding hearts, peonies all piled together so that as one goes down the next one blooms. There are some irises and oriental lillies mixed in and this year I added hydrangia and am in the process of fronting it with reblooming daylillies in a variety of colors and habit. I just keep adding which means I have to move things that are shorter forward too. I will never be done but I DO love it.

Then, I'm always dragging things home with craft intentions too. Just a week or so ago, my neighbor and I took her truck to the recycling center to pick up some (free) compost and she conned me into picking up some old benches that someone had by the curb marked 'trash' because I had told her I wanted to make a planting bench in a certain area...but these truly need repair. Then, on the way home, we saw a couple of bird houses piled by someone else's trash and she stopped and said, "jump out, I want those". Well, while I was loading them, a guy came out of the house waving his arms and we both thought he was going to yell at us...and he WAS! He was yelling that he had some more and some birdfeeders in his garage and that if we wanted them, he wanted to get rid of them....so we have those too.

Between us, we are laughing, but we are NEVER done!

I just hope I don't die because if someone has to clean out this place they will think I am a true crazy. For example only she would know why I have boxes of broken dishes and pottery...and, if you haven't guessed, now you'all will too...for the day I get to my mosiac projects.
Hilarious!
