Hey there, y'all. Just wanted everyone to know that there's going to be a free American Iris Society sponsored iris show May 7th In Greensboro, NC. Anyone can enter a named iris

Editting this post to input the actual information needed to attend the Region 4 Spring Conference. Remember: ENTRY INTO THE SHOW IS FREE. MAKING AN ENTRY OF A NAMED IRIS INTO THE SHOW IS FREE, TOO. RIBBONS WILL BE AWARDED.

WELCOME

The Eastern North Carolina Iris Society will be welcoming you May 7 and 8 to the Triad region of our state. Our hotel is the Embassy Suites Greensboro – Airport, 204 Centreport Drive, in Greensboro and we’ll be touring three diverse gardens.

You’ll have the pleasure of visiting the fairly new garden of Ruth and Hudson Barker near
Greensboro to see a large collection of median irises, including many Chuck Bunnell seedlings,
as well as recent TBs, Siberians, and species. The lovely garden of Wyatt LeFever, who is best known as a breeder of koi, hybridizer of daylilies, azaleas, and rhododendrons, is near Kernersville, a short distance from Greensboro.

Wyatt Lefever's garden is a three acre shaded hillside garden filled with many rare and wonderful
plantings will greet us when we visit the garden of Wyatt Lefever in May. More than a hundred rhododendrons and azaleas provide structure and color beneath a canopy of tall forest trees. Hostas and other perennials abound throughout the garden which can be seen from golf cart accessible paths.. Many plants we will see have been hybridized by Wyatt. In addition to the shade garden there is a LARGE Koi filtered Koi pond in a landscaped setting which includes a developing collection of Pseudatas. No matter what the season the garden is a jewel to behold.
This garden features the renovated Koi pond and trails for walking or riding in a golf cart.

This will be your last visit to the established garden of our dear friend, Roy Epperson in High Point. Roy’s daughters are pleased that ENCIS will prepare the garden for one more year of spectacular bloom, featuring many of the newest iris cultivars.

You may want to arrive on Thursday, May 6th, to visit some nearby attractions of interest, such as the Guilford Courthouse Battlefield, the furniture outlets of High Point, and Replacements Limited, a fascinating collection, museum, and outlet for china, silver, glassware, and the place to find that missing piece of your china. Be sure to take the free tour of their facility, offered every half hour.
Registration forms, schedule, and more details [follow.]
Please bring [...] your best bloom stalks for the Show on Friday, May 7th. We’ll be waiting for your
registration. See you in Greensboro in the warmth of May!

as of now, no. subject to change depending on demand.

Right now our club expects to be in the red on the whole conference. We are keeping the cost down to $115 due to the economy - cheaper than in past years.

It's $3000 to rent the bus. it holds 55 passengers. In the past, if there was enough demand for the conference that they needed a 2nd bus, there were usually enough seats to offer garden tour only tickets. That way they'd fill a bus and introduce outsiders to the fun we have. We got a lot of new members by doing this.

If we get enough conference goers to rent another bus, then yes, we'd probably do the same thing. Sell garden tour only tickets (which includes your lunch). But, due to the economy, they are NOT reserving the 2nd bus until they know the demand.

I've already mentioned I have 4 people that want to go on the tour and can't come on Friday. They are considering having a one day ticket to the conference, too. There are a lot of folks that can't come Friday due to work.

Oh, good. Do keep me informed and if a one-day ticket is offered, I'll be there if at all possible!

update for you, Angie: it's looking like there are a lot of folks that only want the bus tour. Epperson's family is getting first priority (that makes sense) don't think that will be more than 5 or 6
Family members of ENCIS Iris society members are getting 2nd priority. Again, probably not more that 5 or 6
The local Daylily society asked for any available spots leftover as soon as this was announced last year. Several of our members are members of both societies. Again, not more than 5 or 6 seats expected to be needed for them.
But I am very doubtful we have 18 available seats.
I've got your name in there, though. I heard the price will be $45. That includes lunch at a restaurant.

will let you know Birdie. I've asked about the possibility of renting another van or bus. The cost factor is in the cost of the driver for a whole day and the insurance. They just don't believe they'll have the people to rent another bus.

Just editted the first post to put in the full Registration brochure.

Hi, All! I'm back from a grueling 2 weeks in Asheville working on the house we have there, trying to get it ready for the market. In the 2 weeks we were there, 2 more houses in the neighborhood were offered for sale, so this may not be the best time to be trying to sell a house!

Bonnie, do you know yet if there are going to be one-day tickets offered for this event?

Just wanted all to know that Dave may be shutting down Cubits on Fri due to a lawsuit threat of 1,000,000. Bummer
however, "Tinker" has shared the address to a site that she created. There is no charge and many forums. I don't want to lose my gardening or any other friends made here.
Please check out tinker's site @

Birdie: Thank you for posting this notice here. I hope this doesn't happen, but if it does, it will only strengthen my resolve not to renew my membership at DG.

Okay. In light of the recent events with DG/Cubits, I will be posting on Tinkers Gardens, but you will need to register there first.

Bonnie: if I send you a picture of one of the irises I received from you at the 2009 SARU in Asheville, do you think you could ID it for me? It's a dwarf yellow with blue beard.

Thanks.
