It grows and develops all winter. It will start sending up shoots sometime in...June? Not sure precisely. Those you cut as soon as they get their curl. (yummiest vegetable ever!! but harvest before it gets hard!!) That leaves more growing energy for fattening up your garlic. It comes up when it starts drying at the neck, I believe. July around here. Then hang or sun for a bit and you are good to go!! Hurray! Hurray! I tip my hat to you.

Yep. Or out in your garden...how cold does it get there??
Does the ground freeze deep? I think mine are a good 8" apart. Not a lot...but not too close either. I don't think...

My garden is full of weeds, I would have to remove them to plant something. We have a few days of freezing, last year a few days of snow.. not sure if we have a really deep freeze like you guys have.

Well...consider clearing a 3'x 4' patch a little...and just stabbing the garlic in there. It grows all winter and some weeds may protect it. It should be big enough by spring to clear around. Sticking tongue out

I need to get mine planted still. I also have elephant garlic to plant this year. I just found out about eating the scapes. No wonder my garlic stayed small.

Finally just got my garlic planted a few weeks ago. It is up and growing very nicely. The elephant garlic bulbets I traded for were duds. I found some at Wally World. $3 for 3 cloves in a bag. Huge rascals. I bought a bag and planted them about a week or so ago. I am excited about them. I planted my hardneck garlic 2" apart. The lephant garlic was 3 bulbs to a 1 foot square.
