My computer crashed last month and I lost thousands of photo's as well as my Hoya excel file with detailed information on all of my plants Crying (Do you think I will learn to do back-up's once in awhile)? Anyway, I received this Hoya from a DG trade in summer 2008, and it was labeled H. merrillii. It sure looks a lot like a picture Carol posted of H. pottsii so I'm wondering if it's actually pottsii and not merrillii? I'm thinking I had H. pottsii from another trade a few years ago but don't remember for sure. My ole' brain sure ain't what it used to be! Confused

This plant hasn't bloomed yet but I thought someone might recognize the foliage. The foliage was solid green until I placed it in a sunny location. I love the red color's it gets when subjected to a lot of sunlight! I need to research both to see if I can find pic's of blooms and maybe when mine decides to grace me with flowers I will be able to identify it for certain. I looked at the pic's in DG Plant Files where I had uploaded a picture to merrillii and it looks like the other photo's posted there as well as other merrillii pic's I found when googling, but I guess so many of them look alike and it may take blooms to be certain. Just thought I'd see what y'all think.

Dom: Some leaves are larger than others and they are quite thick.

It's all about choices.
They almost look like H. tjadamanguensis. H. pottsii leaves are not thick...and they have recurved margins. I remember my merrillii as having kinda fat leaves...like H. cominsii...

I hope I can get it to bloom this summer and maybe with flowers I will be able to get a correct ID.

Carol: tjadamanguensis (what a mouthfull!) is a new one to me so I had to google it ... didn't find any pic's of foliage ... but WOW, I came across your Flickr photostream ... GORGEOUS photo's of your Hoya's! I didn't have a chance to get past the first few pages but oh my goodness, they are really beautiful!

... might get me in big trouble (since I'm talking of downsizing) but I plan on going back to look at the rest of your photo's later tonight! Smiling

I have read elsewhere that H merillii isnt yet in cultivation. I have 2 both labelled H aff. merillii, one has leaves very similar to yours. I got that one from Paul Shirley

That could be....about it not being in circulation. But I know that the one I had as H. merrillii had very different blooms from my pottsii...so I don't think those are the same.
