Carol, I never visit e-bay but it sure is a shame that people sell plants that are mislabeled. ![]() ![]() I am not a plant expert but it does anger me somewhat when I go to a garden center or nursery and recognize a plant with a tag/label that is totally wrong, and when I ask about it they don't seem at all bothered .. like it's no big deal!! Many people just don't care, and if it continues and no one speaks about it .. a hundred years from now I can only imagine the labels that will be on a lot of plants ... folks will be calling a Daisy a Hoya, or a Philodendron will be a Cactus! ACCURACY in plant labeling is IMPORTANT! |

Carol.....arisenbud is a grower in Florida. Almost all of his plants are sold at top dollar. I have no idea why people are so attracted to his plants, but they always fetch a hefty price. I find the Thai sellers to be much better at correctly identifying their hoyas....in my experience, it's the U.S. sellers that "invent" names for the plants they sell....probably so the unsuspecting will think it's something they don't already own!! There are constantly US sellers on Ebay selling H. rubra....and, it's actually the carnosa....there IS a H. rubra....but, it's not variegated and doesn't look like H. carnosa KQ!! LOL Plant Lady....yes, you're totally right about nurseries mislabeling or, worse, not labeling plants at all....I've complained to the owners so many times....they always claim that the "growers" ship them without ID's. Truth is that most plant buyers don't really care what the name of the plant is...if it look nice...that's all they care about. Most people purchase plants for the looks and then toss them when they start looking badly. It's sad, but we live in a disposable world...and only the "serious" collectors are bothered by the lack of ID's or the many plants that are labeled "assorted foliage". Fondly, Patrick |

There are 7 pages of hoyas on ebay....with the odd wrong plant coming up. Most of them Thais flooding the market....hard to find US growers in there. And the Thais are about 90percent correct on IDs. Leap. The net will appear. |
