It's all about choices.
...of why you can't trust leaves!!!!

This picture shows two large (they ARE 3" long) lightish green leaves coming out of a pot...then a vine with small dark green leaves.

Same plant!!!! I had to repair a cutting that was failing...the large leaves...and the new growth is Soooooo different. Typical of me...I didn;t make or have handy a tag....so the ID will have to wait.

Interesting, eh? Thumb of 2010-11-26/AlohaHoya/e37155

I have an example of this too! I thought it was so strange.
I received a H. plicata from Joni last month.. described as having "smooth small to medium sized leaves that are thick and strong." Upon arrival they were just that. Dull, no-shine, thick leaves. But recently.. after it has been growing directly in a northern window (in Washington's cloudy skies) it has grown one huge thin and shiny leaf! With more following suit.

My dad (who knows nothing about plants) thought it might be getting more water under my care, so it didn't need succulent leaves.. Maybe it's trying to catch more sun? Confused

I snapped another photo of the back side of the plant (guess which side was facing the window Sticking tongue out )

Well...I am going to guess that the leaves pick up their pace when given JUST the right conditions. Will look for more examples.....

Glad to see the picture of the plicata with shiny leaves because mine (from Joni) has dull, thick leaves.
