I want one of the original solid dark green carnosas that gets the speckles as it ages. I don't have anything to trade. Looking for some prices.

Thank you,

Susan

Sorry, my old carnosa is just a regular speckled one. I made sure to look last night. Brand-new leaves are speckled.

Confuses me this 'Real Carnosa' thing.
My bet is you're looking for H moteskii...was my first Hoya, love it

No, I've had moteskii and it's not that. I guess it is really just a solid dark green carnosa with leaves more wider than pointed if that makes sense. As it gets older, the speckles appear. Of course the young leaves could have some speckles also.

Chelsea reminds me of the plant but it's not her.

Perpetually happy!
Could this be the one? I've had it for like 20 years...

This is my "heirloom" Hoya, as well. Lots of cuttings there... Whistling

Dom, my sentiments, exactly!

Any idea how long H. moteskii has been in circulation?

Just curious, and trying to figure out which Hoyas my Nana & Great Grandmother would have had. Mother swears Nana's hoya had solid green leaves, but flowers very similar/ (identical?) to my tricolour carnosa...

I have a hoya carnosa that belonged to a friend's great grandmother. Its got to be at least 70 or 80 years old and its shiny and molted, looks just like Lee Anne's photo

Very good. Thank-you for the info.

Nice to know I probably have the same one as Great Grandma.

I suspect Nana may have had the moteskii, tho' as this is the one w/o mottling or speckling? Flower is the same as carnosa?

It's all about choices.
Basically, all H. carnosa flowers are the same...and that's why they are all called H. carnosa. Color of flowers means nothing and can change from bloom to bloom...they are really all the same plant (like a bloodline). It is extremely old, this hoya and has probably set seed for many folks who grew them out and continued to call them H. carnosa unless they grew out 'sports' and mutations....

Thank-you, Carol, but does moteskii have the same flower, as well? Is it a carnosa, or just like (aff.) or fraterna? Different DNA?

I've noticed flower colour varies with fertilizer, water & light. From cream to pink, but not as drastic (dramatic?) as your "chimeric" blooms! Drooling

Man...it gets complicated with H. motoskei. Best you Google it and wade thru the information ... go to PS The Hoyan where C. Burton talks about many complicated issues. Her articles are good, if it weren't for the bitterness and spite she writes with. I know she discusses the carnosa saga.

BTW... 'aff' is short for 'affinis' = 'close to'. Fraterna is the name of a species as well as a subspecies of H. meliflua.

My apologies, I should type what I mean.. I didn't meant H. fraterna, but meant as in fraternaL, related, brothers? Twins?

I did read PS CB's article on carnosa w/ moteski. I'll re-read this one, and research.
I can't recall the conclusion, aside from the fact she doesn't want to discuss it again!

Yes...conclusions are sometimes difficult with reading her articles. She is SO learned and has so much to offer - she loses most people with her rantings....

Very technical, and learned, indeed. This is where I get lost. A brilliant mind, no doubt, and a fountain of information. I just hit saturation point too quickly!
