Their website is still under development!
I got a price list from them, which seems very reasonable, so I've asked whether the
cuttings are rooted/unrooted and what size they are..

Julie,

Nice leg work, haven't ever seen that site. let us know what you find out. I looked through the site, It looks like the cuttings are 1 or 2 nodes, they are stuck in little peat bagies,,, it looks like.
if they ship them that way it might be ok.

Kim, I found out that the cuttings are usually 2 nodes, sent unrooted. Prices range from $4-10 with a couple of plants at $15/20.
Most are $4-8, which I though quite reasonable...

Wow...they have a variegated chelsea. I would buy that. However, I don't think I would order all the way from Thailand unless it was some group order or something like that. Seems iffy to me.

Can't see the site here at work so will have to check it out at home. Always interested in another vendor. On another note, I received an email from AleyaGarden, whom I have ordered from for several years, several times a year. I wanted to order 1 more time before it got cold. They apologized and asked if I would wait till March. Because of the flooding they were having to relocate their plants to another location which is actually closed to a postal service. I appreciated their honesty and asking me to wait instead of just taking my order which they wouldn't be able to fill for months.

Oh, those poor people. I can just imagine the scrambling that must be going on to get plants, animals, possesions, and people out of the flood areas.

$6 for a 2 node cutting Lee Anne Smiling

Dee/Marcy, I think Aleya Garden have a notice on their website saying they are relocating all their plants. Just awful isn't it, but good they have been upfront about their problems. What a terrible impact on lives and livelihoods

This is the least of their worry. They have to worry about being electrocuted to death just trying to either get out or are trying to get aid set up in hard hit areas. Two more people were killed the other day.
They need to watch for snakes and croc's swimming around.
Then there's the flood-related disease like Leptospirosis some good terrible thing from rat urine that gets into your skin from open cuts. Most Thais walk around with flip flops.
Bites from insects, particularly centipedes, or reptiles can occur as flooded urban areas bring wild animals into contact with people.
This is just some of the problems that the Thais are now having to face with out much government help, the army is trying to help but they can only do so much.
Some government hospitals are turning away sick and hurt because they do not have a mandate from the government to do so.
Ok I will get off my soap box.I love this country and it breaks my heart to see yet another disaster to this country.

You can't 'un-ring' a bell.
Many people and not enough resources can only mean disaster when nature shows her fury...

So many natural disasters in the last year.
Flooding in Pakistan, Tsunami In Japan, followed by the nuclear disaster,
now more flooding, but in Thailand...

I scoff at those individuals who poo-poo climate change.

Well, I thought I'd resurrect this thread to tell you all that I ordered from Wasana Garden to see what they were like.
All I can say so far is what lovely helpful people, who have gone the extra mile in the face of adversity. They have communicated at every step of the way, telling me when my hoyas were being shipped, asking if I'd received them, telling me they were worried where they were (as a package they had sent to Poland 2 days after mine had arrived in 4 days!).

Well, after what seems like HOURS on the phone to Parcel Force, HM Revenue and Customs and UK Border Agency I finally found out where my package was! At the International Hub in Coventry. A very nice man from DEFRA had decided to slap a notice on several boxes of plants from Thailand - including mine. The letter advising me of this arrived 10 days after he seized them. Once I'd spoken to him, he was happy to lift the notice, and approve my box for delivery. Interesting? The issue he had with the phytosanitary certificate couldn't have been that serious, could it?

So the dear people at Wasana Garden have been emailing me at 11.30pm their time to tell me they are trying to get their DOFA to issue an Additional Declaration to keep DEFRA happy.

Well, all should be well!! Huh! We forgot British efficiency! The box was released 3 days ago, and is still listed as 'awaiting customs clearance'. The very nice man from Defra investigated for me, apparently the UK Border Agency aren't working today!!

Welcome all you illegals queueing at the French Border - pop on over!!!!!

So my hoyas are sitting for another weekend (?) because UKBA don't work Friday??
Please! This is getting to be such a farce.
I doubt Wasana Garden will ever send to the UK again after this!

Incidentally, the other Thai parcels detained by DEFRA were not being released, as only I had contacted the man responsible - so he was 'doing me a favour'. There are going to be several really irate people....

So, regardless of what state my cutting arrive in, Wasana Garden have been outstanding! I couldn't have asked for more from them.

The final chapter is that the man from DEFRA is going to check on my parcel next week... It will be a miracle if they are alive Grumbling
