Awesome, Dom...thanks so much for sharing. I especially loved the first park...so tropical in appearance. The others reminded me of the southwest of the U.S. Fondly, Patrick
Ferries Hydrofoils and Planes Carol...........all very easy and cheap for residents..the islands are very diverse and very volcanic, so quite dramatic......and warm...:)) Still a couple of them I havent visited yet, but on the cards for next year
I must make one of these videos one day......This one is my island..well, not mine exactly, but where I live. Shows a little of the island, but there's much more.......Can be savage and beautiful at the same time ..very photogenic.....which is why a lot of us arty types live here.:)) http://vimeo.com/19708003
Both videos are awesome, Dom, but I would encourage you to produce one. Arty, or artsy, people like you would do an even better video so go for it! I would like to see a video of your place, too, esp if some of the renovation is starting. I love the various cactus in the video and am wondering if you have some on your property? I agree with Doug about thinking it would be a good place to visit so be very cautious about extending invites because you never know what might show up on your doorstep!
Just beautiful places. I love your island. Very peaceful scenes. I felt like I was there hiking in the parks.
I have a question. Why are all the bldgs/dwellings white? It reminds me of pictures I have seen of Greece.
I had thought about that mj.......When the house is finished, Randy...all welcome:)) There's a 'law' here that all houses have to be painted white or a small variety of muted colors.......It used to be the tradition to paint them other earthy colors with traditional lines around the edges.....some still do, and I will be . On some other islands they were painted much stronger colors, reds, blues. It worked beautifully on the old houses, but many have transfered these colors to apartment blocks, new housing ( a lot went up in the 70's when that Spanish relinquished colonies in Africa and people moved here rather than Spain for the similar climate )...and it looks a mess in many places..this island decided to stop this happening here and made a 'law' to paint white with green painted wood.or natural wood, or blue wood 20 meters from the sea. Most people comply....there's a lot of civic pride here. No billboarding allowed and kept very clean
I would have a hard time not having color, even if I had to do muted tones. However, I really do like the whites of Santorini and the bright light reflecting from them. No billboards would be great!
Dom, with your talent, Hoya paintings would be awesome. Every once in a while I go look at your website, and think Jeeze, you could make these wonderful plants even more beautiful. But that's just my opinion. No pressure
My Sister was an artist, and I know when I begged her to do something for me it was near on impossible, as it has to be an Inspiration, at least for her it was. Not on a Do it now cause I want it thing...I just happen to think your style fits the plant....If you do, I'm sure it will be wonderful.
Hey Dom - Merry Xmas to you!
Loved the videos! I confess to having visited Teide some 30 years ago (Grief I sound old! )
I had no idea there were beautiful forests ...which island is that Nat Park on?
I have a thing about trees...my OH has strict instructions to plant one on top of me when I peg out! (preferably deep in a forest somewhere.... )
La Gomera, Julie....La Palma is the greenest one tho...its like driving thru Canada or north germany with the giant pines as far as the eye can see.
Living in a white house with the brilliant sunlight we get here Randy is pretty hard on the eyes, Randy...and thanks mj......I'll give it some thought...:))
