Laura, that is how that plant is supposed to look! Super healthy looking plant - How are you growing it?

Thanks for the kind words, Doug! I tip my hat to you. Lovey dubby
The pot it's in; is made of recycled plastics and coconut husks, an enviro friendly job, I find it to be porous like clay.
It's in a mix of hydroton and orchid bark. I water when the pot is light, and it's under the sunblasters. I think I treat it like the rest!?!?
I'm waiting on some blooms right now! Lovey dubby

I think this one really does not like wet feet! I'm going to have to try it the way you are growing the plant. My mix which works well on many of my plants just holds too much water for poor little picta. Great growing Laura I tip my hat to you.

Thank-you both very much. I had one wee little flower bloom on this one, and the fragrance was divine. I cannot wait for a full umbel to sniff.
'Tho, I notice my bloom to be more peachy, and not as yellow, as yours, Doug. But I wait to see what the next one brings!

Laura, I am curious about your pot. You said it is made of coconut husks and recycled plastic.Would you know the company/ website that makes these ?

There are many manufacturers of biodegradable pots now: Earth Forms, Eco Pots, and EnviroArc are all names of companies with products I have seen.

The pot says:

"Earth-Friendly"
biodegradable pot
Product of straw, rice husk and bamboo.
Degrades in 1 year after exposure to elements.

Hope they don't fall apart in one years' time. Whistling

Hilarious! Yes I hope it does not disintegrate. Does coconut husk part disintegrate..........
Does it have name of the company or brand name? I assume earth friendly means just earth friendly.
Something must be disintegrating there..... after a while. Blinking Confused :

From what I can tell, "Earth Friendly" appears to be the name... Blinking

But these look like them!

I was wrong about the coconut husks, tho. It's rice husks. And I don't think I will have to worry about them degrading for at least 10 years. I hope.

Julie & I spoke of then somewhere on another thread. She didn't care for them...

Laura, I saw the web site. Seem like they are saying it insulates better. Also say no to prolonged water holding in the pot. Mine are all outside and will stay there unless it is too cold. So they probably will not last more than 5 yrs By then ,most plants are ready for re potting anyway.Seems like a great alternative to regular plastic pot.

Question- I did not see drainage holes in pots.Did you have to drill holes yourself?

Laura - I transferred my cuttings out of the pots like this because I found they were retaining the water, and it wasn't draining very well. Just because I didn't get on with them doesn't mean to say that others won't have the success you are obviously getting......and it seems you are the H picta champion grower at the moment!!! Hurray!

Julie, you are too sweet! Lovey dubby I'm sure because I've bragged, the aff. picta will promptly go into decline! Hilarious!
Glad you jumped in re: enviro pots... I know you said you didn't care for them, but couldn't recall why! Should we start a new thread on these? This should follow with the clay & plastic discussion. I have a hard time imagining why these enviro pots work well for me, and it's not because I know what I'm doing, that's for certain! Blinking Big Grin

Alka- So you use these too? The ones I have do have drainage holes, similar to a standard plastic pot. I will post a pic, maybe in that new thread I plan to start re: enviro pots?

Laura - I've given up with clay pots too! They were either too wet or too dry, no happy medium (no pun intended Big Grin )
I think it's probably just ME!!!! ha!

Laura, mine does not seem to be enviro pot.
And the clay pots- I think you have to play with it.It works for some plants specially one that like a bit cooler temps around roots. Here in Florida, my roses and Jasmines seem better off in clay pots. Even then I have to keep them in shade during summer. Yes you have to water them more but I am out with the hose everyday anyway.
