I feel so lucky that this show is taking place close to my house at Flamingo Gardens. Hardly 15 min drive! Hoping to get growing supplies and will try to resist buying more plants.Last time this show was in Miami ,I think. People come from all over the world so it would be fun.
Alka, my late Aunt and Uncle used to travel to EVERY World Orchid Conference - where ever it was being held. They loved it. Thanks for putting a smile on my face, remembering the stories they used to tell of their adventures
...and who are you kidding? resisting buying more plants?? Please!!!
Heeh heeh, came home with couple of orchids and Tillandsias........plus some orchid potting mix .
It was jam packed and the area smelled really good........ like some fragrant orchids.
Had fun.
MJ, I am not sure , not too much into Orchids yet. The orchids I bought this time, were the common, easy care ones I had in my mind but did not buy before. So,it was more of a controlled, planned buy. I do not want to collect too many, specially ones requiring special care because I would have hard time finding people to care for them in my absence. Also would need to create indoor space to 'protect' plants. So, I just enjoy a little sampling of orchids.
I do enjoy going there whenever possible and generally go on the Mango/fruit festival.
That park in itself is a great place to visit, specially in summer season when so many fruit trees are loaded with bounty.I recommend anyone visiting Florida,to make a trip there.....and also Fairchild Botanical Gardens.
Yes MJ,they do. But I am not planning on having too many Hoyas either. I have bought quite a fe since mid 2011 and now have about 10 -11varieties,including 3 EA baskets. All EA baskets bloomed already.Several were bought this year and are still very small and probably not going to bloom yet (except pubicalyx which is blooming). So I want to see them bloom first.
I may collect probably 3-4 more at the most.....
yesterday I saw a beautiful baskets of something like Hoya macrophylla variegated and Hoya from finlaysonii type leaves. This guy does not know the names nor cares to . I did not buy either one. One with large leaves looking like finlaysonii even had blooms.
I was very tempted though,baskets were $35 each !
But I was not looking for those,so I did not buy them. Also, lack of names was a deterrent.
Who knows,I might go........will see about that.
Pictures...of what? You mean the baskets at the show? I did not take any.
If you are talking about the ones I have, thaat would take a while because they are scattered all over the place. Hoya wayettii might bloom in few days, has some buds and I will post pics.
Go see Anna at Purification Orchids...tell her I sent you.. very nice lady, I've emailed back and forth with her a good bit lately.... and she'll have some amazing Hoya's there. NOT to mention all the other plants too...
Have Fun !!!
mj
That would be great. Thanks MJ. ...er...should I say MJ when mentioning your name? Or do I need first name etc. Hope I do not give in to temptations....just going to sniff at orchids ,that is what I tell myself.....
