A friend and I purchased a few hoyas from Thailand ... they came as rooted cuttings in sphagnum moss.... We soaked them in water took them out of their tightly elasticized plastic - soaked them for a bit - potted them up and I put mine in my aquarium with bottom heat. They are all sitting on a plastic grate with water below for humidity... Anyways some of the cuttings didnt look too good when we received them... H. Lacunosa "poonsak", Hoya krohniana 'Eskimo', basically the thinned leaved ones didnt travel too well... But I am wondering, because they have roots... should I have put them in the aquarium with bottom heat? Will that cause the roots to rot? I have never received rooted cuttings and I am really not sure how to treat them? Anyone have any advice for us? |

Hi Lynn, if it helps (?)..any rooted cuttings I've received from Thailand have all had to be re-rooted. I did exactly the same as you, and the roots rotted. I'd keep a very close eye on them, and restart them as soon as they look like they are going down hill. The last batch I ordered were unrooted - cheaper, and because of previous experience, I think better to start rooting them when you get them... |
