I got a new Hoya at lowe's and of course it's an EA plant. In my opinion that alone is reason for a second opinion. It was labeled Hoya 'mini-wax leaf' Hoya Lacunosa. If anyone has an opinion i really would love to hear what you all think. ![]() ![]() I asked for a flower and he gave me a garden, then grand-kids to work in it with me!!!! |

Not lacunosa, maybe kentiana ? |
|

thank you mj, i knew i needed to ask just because of EA's history.I am not familiar with lacunosa's at all. I am going to have to research lacunosa.I would like to see what their characteristics are.I will look up H.Kentiana and do some research. thanks for you opinion. ![]() I asked for a flower and he gave me a garden, then grand-kids to work in it with me!!!! |

I went to http://www.growinghoyas.com/hoya_kentiana.htm The description of a Hoya kentiana fit my plant to the T.The leaves are medium green and there's no visible veins. The edges are rolled to the front side of the leaves so they look some what like canoe's.They are long (up to 14cm) but narrow (only 1.3 cm wide). ![]() ![]() ![]() I asked for a flower and he gave me a garden, then grand-kids to work in it with me!!!! |

Resembles H.wayettii I have. Mine is also EA basket but had no tag when bought. If leaves develop dark margin, like a lip liner, then it is wayettii.Otherwise Kentiana from what I read. I do not have a lacunosa so I do not know if any lacunosa has similar leaves. Hopefully others will chime in. |

There is a mess around that plant: I don't know the definite answer if H. kentiana, H. weyettii and some say H. agustafolia. I do know it is NOT H. lacunosa (named because it has lacunose leaves....definition of lacunose found on Google, no time to type it out). I would call it H.kentiana unless you like H. weyettii better? ![]() Leap. The net will appear. |

Hi johoya, I just bought a plant at Lowes a couple of weeks ago that looks just like yours. It was labeled as Wayetti. I don't think they pay much attention to their labels. I have seen them with the labels all mixed up. BTW, I live in Georgia too. Barb |

Hi barb, where in Ga. are you from? I have been going back and forth between these sites for what seems like hours. http://www.myhoyas.com/W/wayetii/mine.htm http://www.hoyor.net/en/showspecies.php?id=28 http://www.hoyor.net/en/showspecies.php?id=190 http://www.growinghoyas.com/hoya_wayetii.htm Now my question is on Christine B.'s site her H. wayetti is red/maroon does this happen with lots of sun light to only wayetii and not the kentiana? My plant's new leaves are a reddish/maroon color on the whole leaf but the older leaves are a medium green with the edges darker then the rest of the leaf and They are some long leaves. I asked for a flower and he gave me a garden, then grand-kids to work in it with me!!!! |

Which site is Christine B.'s site. There ARE those who think the two are the same species different clones. Different collections will react differently to light in the leaves...you cannot go by the leaves to ID a hoya. You use the leaves in the ID, but the flower has the markers. You may never know what it really is...and actually, the plant doesn't mind at all. ![]() ![]() Leap. The net will appear. |

Jelinda, when I got mine it had no dark edges because it was indoor....at Publix (grocery store). I hung it outside in partial shade . Over time, leaves developed dark green edges which turned dark brown gradually. Even now, part exposed to more sun has darker edges on leaves. I do not get orangish reddish leaves like Christina. Mine are more like ones in your picture.Flowers are red, posted pics a while ago. Hope that helps. |

I'm voting for H. wayetti. Christine |

Welcome to the hoya forum Barb. I agree, it is easy to lose yourself in these 'pages'. Christine |

Yep. Without a doubt, I love EA's labels. *sigh* Wish I could find the EA baskets you do Barb! "When you have only two pennies left in the world, buy a loaf of bread with one, and a lily with the other." - Chinese Proverb |
