Hi everybody,

my name is Daniel and guess, I´m new here.
Since I´ve found this site I´ve really learned a lot ´bout taking care for my Hoyas.
It´s a great Site and especially a big Hand for Doug and his amazing videos!!!!

So, I live in formally known East-Germany and wanted to ask who of the Forum-Members resident in Europe, especially in Germany?

Why do I ask this??? The reason is sharing Hoyas! I noticed that getting Plants and Cuttings from overseas isn´t that easy, so I wanted to look around in the Europe region where you don´t need any certificates and so on.

More later, but maybe an suggestion, wouldn´t it be nice to have a forum where members can tell a bit ´bout themselves? Or did I miss it?

And please be lenient with my english..... ;-)

Best regards

Daniel

Hi Daniel - welcome to the cubit!!

You are quite right that importing hoya plants for us Europeans can be quite difficult!
There are a few of us about :), I'm in the UK, there are a couple in Spain and a couple in Sweden.

Enjoy the great info, and great people that you find here Lovey dubby

Daniel, welcome to the cubit! I'm glad you are finding some useful information in some of my videos. Your English seems to be pretty much flawless! I would recommend trying to connect with some of the fantastic Swedish growers; I think they might be able to help you out or point you in the right direction as far as acquiring new plants.

Hello Julie,
so I found one EU-Member for the beginning! Thank you for your welcome!

Hello Doug,
yeah, not only your Videos are full of useful informations, your site even so!
The last cuttings I´ve got last weekend are already put in semi-hydro and the next ones I´ll get tomorrow will go there too. Even my plants with wich I´ve some struggle will get there! And your soil-formula is nearly completed. Just waiting for the perlite. Thak you for your welcome and your compliment.
By the way, the facebook group, Carol mentioned, was the reason why I got to your site.

Hello Carol,
I´m already member of planet hoya *Blush* , but thats the way life is, the answer lays before your feet and you don´t see it...thanks for your welcome, too.

So,
Carol mentioned to make a cubit for the Hoya collector database.

Here it is: http://cubits.org/hoyacollectordb/

It would be very kind if you would have a look at it and join.

Maybe you´ve got one or another suggestion what can be changed or added.

Although would be nice to be named here.....

Hi :)
My name is Lea and I'm from Slovenia. I just started to grow my collection of Hoya plants. I have a nice H. bella and a H. carnosa, both of them are growing and flowering very well in the last 2-3 years. So I decided to enlarge my collection of Hoyas and start to search on the net. In 2011 I've been in Florence (Italy) to visit a privat collector who have a large collection of Hoyas and succulents&cacti. I bought a few plants (Bilobata, multiflora, kerrii, pubicalyx,...) but some of them are not doing very well. And Florence is a bit too far for me to go often there. Then I found Paul Shirley and ordered 10 more cuttings from him (recieved in may), I'm still waiting for them to root. They looks really good.
Now I search for other Hoya sellers in Europe, maybe someone of you can recomend me any :)

sorry for my english.

Welcome Lea; we're a bunch of hoya nuts here (emphasis on the nuts), but collectively, we have a large knowledge of hoyas, so you've found one of the best places to learn and to find out about more hoyas (and more and more and more).

So, another hoya supplier in Europe is Botanova in Sweden. I've ordered from them a couple of times and have been very happy with their cuttings. Here's a link to their website - http://www.freewebs.com/botanova/

They also have a book out called "The Genus Hoya", which is published in Swedish and English. It's gotten mixed reviews though but the pictures themselves are worth buying the pictures for, in my humble opinion.

Good morning everyone :)
In may euphoric web-search in the last year I also found Botanova, yes. I sent them a mail for more info (I was interested in buying their book too). After 4 month of waiting for the answer I recieved a mail with the info "we have more or less sold off all our plants, as we do not have greenhouse space anymore" (this was on 4/3/2012) :( So I just ordered the book The Genus Hoya, recieved in maybe 10-14 days. In English obviously :) And as you say the book is very useful for me as a beginner in collecting and growing Hoyas.
In Slovenia this plants are not so common, in the shops you can find some Bella or Carnosa, maybe other few species (if you are very lucky) and that's all. There surely are other collectors in SLO but are hard to find, or I just don't look in the right places :D

Thanks for the update on Bonanova Lea. I always imagine hoya sellers as having big huge houses with an adjoining greenhouse and no plans to ever change that. This is surely a wake-up call for me!

Does anyone else know of other suppliers in Europe?

a few sellers on Tradera (Swedish Ebay) accept European bids - but many do not accept Paypal. Its about £20 to do an international bank transfer from the UK !!

Paul Shirley in the Netherlands

Brookside Cactus Nursery in Uk - although I have never found them! Rolling on the floor laughing

Thats all that comes to mind just now - maybe a few more will pop up later!!

....and theres always me, I come in quite handy for cuttings Big Grin

Daniel - I'm always happy to trade. I've made some fantastic friends and received some beautiful plants that way Smiling

c-mail me if you are looking for anything in particular. I don't grow many of the 'hot' growers, as I struggle to maintain them through the winter - but I have plenty of others.

Julie and Daniel, thanks for the info, I'll check the links :) and if I'll find something new (other sites,...) i'll let you know. I joined the FBgroup as well, it's nice to know that there are so many people interested in Hoyas and that they want to share their knowledge and plants with others. In this moment I don't have any cuttings to trade except of Bella, Carnosa (don't know the specific name) , Bilobata and Pubicalyx but I think almost all collectors already have these 4 :) ). I'm still waitin for my new cuttings to root. But if anyone want to get rid of or sell some cuttings I don't have yet... here I am :)
I WANT MORE OF THEM!!! :)

Have a nice day

Forgot about this nursery in Italy. They were the ones who had 'borrowed' Joni's picture without asking her permission...

I've never ordered from them, so have no experience of their service.

thanks for the link. I often search for collectors in Italy, as I speak italian very well. When I found the nursery in Florence I took the opportunity to go on a short trip for a few days and visit them (and Florence of corse :) ) They also told me that they can send me some cutting in spring but when I sent them a mail in april I didn't recieve any response.I always think twice before ordering anything from Italy cause they have very high post costs. at least that's my experience (I almost ordered a book that costs 15 € but cancelled the order when I saw that the post costs for sending in Slovenia were 65 €!!). Not to mention that Italy and Slovenia are neighbours :) But maybe that was just a bad day for me :). I'll try to contact them again, we'll see what happen.

this is the link of the nursery in Florence, if any of you are interested :)
