Well I've missed a lot !! Haven't had time to post much.
Wonderful blooms from March, seems like everyone's gearing up for a great blooming season.
H. verticillata albomarginata
H.splash "B"...Thank You Julie ! Last pic wierd double bud
Hi MJ!! Great blooms! And lovely to see that 'Splash' is VERY happy in its new home. I just love those leaves, it's one of my faves. Hope you are enjoying it too!
What is the secret to growing mindorensis? Does it require lots of light? Water or dry?
I got both but none bloomed so far. Shepherdell I have has several peduncles and they do not produce buds.
And I do fertilize, with orchid fertilizer.
Similarly,I have many peduncles on H. Kerrii (fuzzy green leaves) but none progress to buds.
Any know why peduncles do not progress to make buds ?
Alka honestly H.mindorensis has been an easy one for me. I need to take a pic of the whole plant.
It's veryyyyyyy root bound. I keep it in the greenhouse in winter, under the side that has the aluminet shade cloth so it doesn't get really really strong light. I water when it dry's out, but then I really really soak it. It dries out quickly now since it's so root bound. I'm going to move up to a very slightly larger pot now.
Actually almost all my Hoya's are very root bound. I can't say that my fertilizer regime is exact or a science. Sometimes I'm good about keeping a schedule and sometimes not. Most definitely during the winter months they don't get fertilized nearly as often. And the watering can be very erratic for the ones in the greenhouse that are harder to get to. I've got a few that I would have thought would have bloomed by now also. They may go on the "Hoya's to neglect" list. That often seems to do the trick...
Carol, that is just too funny... But it is probably a right answer.
MJ, my mindorensis is relatively new ,so may be not root bound yet. I have it in a sunny window.
Due to rains outside, I have not put it under the tree yet as I read it likes to grow sorta dry. I water when soil is dry and it's soil gets dry rather quick.May be it just needs some patience.
I also got quite a few that have not bloomed yet.
Kerrii I talked about irritates me most because when I bought it, there were flowers on it's lone peduncle. Now no flowers on all these tons of peduncles. I got to start making a compost pile so I can threaten to throw it there .

HAHAHA...Alka...I had a kerrii which bloomed once (I think...can't remember). 10 years, bloomed once. What is wrong with this picture? So...it's on the list of hoyas I don't grow.
A few new blooms which came out while I was gone.

I got this from a friend...it's a sport of Krinkle 8...small dark green leaves and HUGE white umbels...blooms a lot!!!!
H. nicholsoniae...lots of buds forming.
No clue what this is...don't even remember planting it. Hmmmmm...must be losing my mind. Again.

I have no idea what it is, Alka. I just received my first REAL verticillata today, a cutting from Ted Green. Verticillata means that the leaves grow in a 'swirl' around the node...not just 2 per node but perhaps 4 or 5 or 6 ... I had never known this. He thinks it's subquintuplinervis but the leaves aren't right. No idea!!! And I think I will call her Grace...names aren't all that important to me now.
I think the leaves on hoya plants are as beautiful as the flower....okay 'almost' as beautiful as the flowers but maybe this is because I've only gotten a hoya to bloom for me once. I'm fascinated by those big heart shaped leaves so I love Kerri even without blooms.
Alchemist....sorry forgot your 'name'.......kerrii is nice but mine has grown big and heavy and stiff vines and it is a pain to manage it during hurricane season here......... I still like it but once you see it's flower ,you will want it to bloom too. Flowers on kerrii are very pretty, specially when you see them in person.....or it may be just me who thinks like that.
Here is the picture of most of it (one in front) . Some of the peduncles are also visible from this angle. And some people have much bigger, and heavier plant.
You see australis behind it.
