I need some advice on growing Hoyas under fluorescent lights. How close can the lights be to the plant, the distance in-between? Any specific fluorescent bulbs, as I noticed they all have different specs?
And what about high output fluorescent lights- 4FT 54W T5 Fluorescent light with 6500° Kelvin high output as I see being called "grow lights" online?
I am planning to get couple of lights for my newly built plant stand and need some advice as which lights to get.
I found these lights and they look okay to me: http://www.horticulturesource.com/sun-system-sunlight-supply...
What do you think??
Thank you in advance!!! Smiling

My friend built me a new plant stand for my soon to be coming addition to the family (hoya plants) and I need to get lights to hook up to the stand. So, let's see which lights are good for hoyas.

I just use the 65K CFL bulbs and I can place them almost right up to the plant. I have a few plants maybe 5 inches away from the bulbs with no damage.

I have had great success keeping my plants happy with 65K grow bulbs with 1900 lumens of output. Of course, a t5 setup would probably be more beneficial, but I am on a budget....the bulbs are about $10 online and the clamps are about the same price.

Thank you Lauren for your information. I appreciate it. I am shopping around ... I found these light 'strips' with these specs: 54W T5 Fluorescent light with 6500° Kelvin high output ... they are not as expensive as other light fixtures. Smiling
Thanks for sharing.

Do you know how many lumens it produces?

You're welcome. Smiling Of course, T5s are great but if you're like me and on a budget, CFLs will do in a pinch! I've rooted many a Hoya under my little clamp/CFL setup. I'm surprised at how well they work considering. I'm sorry I don't have much to say on the fixtures...they'd take up my whole apartment! Angel

I agree 100%!! Doug is The Master when it comes to growing under lights.

This link to his website might be helpful. There is a wealth of fabulous information on his site.

mj and Julie...Yes, I already asked Doug. He gave me some useful information and advice.
Julie, yes, I love Doug's website and his videos.
Oh, Doug, I think you need to do a video on setting up lights/light fixtures...give us a small lesson.
Lauren, no, I don't know about lumens. I will check.
THANK YOU to all of you for your advice and recommendations!!! Lovey dubby Angel
