I usually don't buy on Ebay because the prices are so high, but this last weekend I spotted the Pubicalyx "Black Dragon" which was one I really wanted. So I decided to treat myself. It arrived today in great condition
The Ebay seller freaked me out, when I opened the box I saw a tag that read H. CF Acuta (yellow) EPE-271. Panic sent in. I thought they sent the wrong plant. But, there was another one in the box. Made me so very happy as I didn't already have an Acuta so it is a perfect addition to my collection.

Ric is a GREAT guy and a GREAT hoya grower. I've known him for....well, a long long time...and I really like how he grows plants. I hope you know that H. cf acuta is NOT H. acuta. 'cf' means that it 'compares favorably' to H. acuta...which means that "this really looks like H. acuta but it can't be verified so it really ISN"T H. acuta...yet...until someone verifies it...which probably won't happen because everyone is so busy looking for new Hoyas in the jungle'... I have that one too and it is lovely!!!
PS. I far prefer the cf and aff and the unidentified species because they are new and not common and rarer than a lot of the named species Hoyas running around....
Great info Carol. I had no clue...I knew the letters all mean something, but most of this is new too me. Hoya has been my favorite flower since I was a little girl, but up until about 3 years ago I only knew of the Carnosa as this is what mom had hanging in the front entry & I fell in love with. Once I found out they come in other colors & sizes I've been determined to get as many as I have room for...time to get a bigger house. I actually got my first Hoya from my grandma almost 2 years ago. She bought me a Rubra at Wal-Mart, this is still one of my favorites. The leaves and vines are so pretty, but still no flowers. But I am now up to 42 & growing. They are so much fun :)
You just can't go wrong getting cuttings/plants from Ric...and I find that they root quite well for me, and I'm the world's worst at rooting hoyas!! I also love the free cuttings, and the cuttings are very generous, and Ric ships rapidly...amazingly so! Fondly, Patrick
