Hoya nummularpides- Grown from cuttings last yr, smells so good. ![]() |
Oh well done!!! I have a coule of nummularoides, but have never got one to bloom ![]() ![]() |
Julie, no secret here. I keep mine outside in partial sun....(bright light but no direct sun) . Mostly watered by rains but I think it does not like too much water. I do not really do much for it. It is like pubicalyx and carnosa in terms of care here. |
julie this one needs the shorting of the day light to get it to bloom. |
The white Majic bloom....![]() H. bordenii ![]() Leap. The net will appear. |
Beautiful. Is 'Whitebmagic' your new cross? Love bordenii, my recently bought cutting is leafing out,so I am hoping for flowers in a yr or two. |
Thanks for the advice Alka, Cindy. I think that's found the cause of my problem...I have them in a growtent at the moment...so no shortening of daylight hours!! ![]() Love that bordenii Carol, a wonderful rich colour ![]() New bloomer for me...hoya mirabilis ![]() I have 8 peduncles in flower on pandurata too. Very difficult to photograph them all though ![]() |
Julie, it nummularoides blooms when season starts cooling off and daylights are shorter. So , Carol is right and it would be really interesting to see yours bloom outside the growhouse. Love that mirabilis....trying to get it. Are they (mirabilis and pandurata) fragrant? Mirabilis reminds me of serpens and pandurata of neoebudica. |
"whitebmagic" is the white blooming clone of H. Majic - a cross between H. carnosa X H. obovata. While color in blooms is not stable, this clone (version/seedling) seems to always bloom white and the other two I kept bloom light pink and dark pink. But they are all H. Majic. ![]() Leap. The net will appear. |
Ha!! Just watering the grow tent, and discovered my first peduncle and buds on.....nummularoides!!! ![]() |
That is good,Julie. They smell great. ![]() Thanks ,Carol. |

Julie, Nice .Hoya mirabilis, and Yeah for your H. nummerloids. Yes short day bloomers.. Cute fuzzy foliage and loads of blooms and great fragrance. What's not to like ! Mine is at the bottom of the post.... Two of my don't follow the rules plants. Comes in as a Cool grower on the Hoya temperature guide but has done the best ever in a hot rather wet summer. Hoya fungii ![]() Hoya linearis hard to photograph w/o out standing on my heard ![]() ![]() Hoya sigillatis ![]() Hoya Iris Marie - I think this gal has been In bloom more than Out all year. ![]() Hoya dimorpha is another prolific bloomer for me. Here it's trying to grow up the side of the greenhouse, even after we removed the shade cloth from the roof, it had attached to the shade cloth and I had to gently pry it away. ![]() Hoya nummeraloids. ![]() |

Wow...mj great growing!!!! Very impressed with linearis....my nemesis... Leap. The net will appear. |

Carol, Do you find H. bordonii difficult to grow? By the way... beautiful! Are you treating it any different than any other Hoya? MJ, What is your secret for growing linearis in Florida? I don't know any hot-weather vendor that has it. I have grown other Himalayan species surprisingly well here in Louisiana (eg. H. bella, H. lanceolata, H. paxtonii, and H. engleriana vietnam). The secret seems to be keeping them sloppin wet. If they dry out at all they drop leaves. Ironically this is completely opposite from everything I have read in the Hoya literature. p.s. love the H. sigillatis. |
Ren, When I first got it I did keep it in the house in mid June till Fall. The next summer I didn't think about doing it. It's grown in the same spot close to a tree trunk every summer, getting very high light maybe a tiny bit of early morning sun. I don't let it dry out. And this summer we got alot of rain, summer temps in August up to 95º. This is the 3rd year it's starting budding up in Sept. and blooming by the first of Oct. So like you say, opposite of what is generally seen in the culture literature. H. sigillatis is a favorite of mine also. Can be stingy with the blooms but with the foliage who cares. Carol, don't know what to say about H.linearis as you are cooler in general that we are all summer.( I think ) Do you get the shorter days towards fall ? |

H. elliptica![]() H. erythrostemma The picture doesn't do the umbel justice. The corona glistens in the sunlight. ![]() H. cagayanensis ![]() |
Some more pics... H. finlaysonii Awesome scent. ![]() H. imperalis Not the color I would have chosen but did have 4 umbels of 10 flowers each. ![]() H. pubicalyx 'Pink Silver' ![]() H. weibergii great pink splash on the leaves. ![]() |
Wow, what a blooming autumn MJ & Ren!! ![]() ![]() I only have one new bloomer, hoya thomsonii ![]() |
Nice blooms! mj - I don't know why I can't grow H. linearis...except we get SO MUCH rain...and in the gh it is hotter than outside. Since I am successful with H. wightii growing outside, maybe I should try again, and grow the linearis in GrowStones so the rain will just wash thru. Ran...nope...H. bordenii grows along with everyone else...medium high light in the greenhouse (under the shadcloth section but it is still bright) and a very lose mix.... This is a new one for me...imperialis Marys' Pink - Ted Green collected this in the Philippines on Palawan...it was growing near a tiny hotel called Marys. A real dusty pink...hard to get the color with a camera. ![]() ![]() This is H. flagellata just starting to open... ![]() Leap. The net will appear. |
Very nice ran ! Julie is the thomsonii fragrant ? I've been thinking about that one...I like the solid white blooms. It's intersting the differences between the H. imperalis colors...so close but not quite the same. The H. imperalis var rauchii seems to be darker than the above 2. or maybe it's the photos. Carol are they that different in "real life" ? Carol also my H. linearis grows right against a tree trunk so it may get some protection from the rain, but I do water it quite a bit if we don't get rain... ![]() Old pic but will give you an idea ... ![]() |
