At 07:48 10/16/2013, you wrote: This is a question in a group...and I think it's a good question.... Basically: Is there a 'real' H. cembra? Is the plant we have in circulation as H. cembra/H. odorata really H. odorata? I remember that RDK published H. cembra from an unpublished herbarium sheet....but has it ever been found? Here's the question Terribly confused about Hoya cembra (or cembrae) and Hoya odorata.. I've read publications about there is no hoya odorata (cause it's extinct) and all the hoya odorata's actually are cembra. And I've read another publications that say cembra created from an unpublished hoya, called hoya leucantha. So all the Hoya odorata we have, are true odorata. OMG!! From: ted green Subject: Re: Could you answer this? Cc: dale I think that David had his hand in this argument. The true H cembra (that looks like Schlechter's sheet) has never been re-collected - or a least not recognized a such - and I am continually looking for it. I have never been to the Alag River on Mindoro. I was hoping that George ad it. Our odorata (that meets the description) does not meet the description of H. leucantha (Moore) (from Indonesia ) nor the plant in the herbarium sheet with the untenable name leucantha. I think that this is what David was talking about but he was wrong in saying that our odorata is cembra. Ted What's the truth? Dorothy. |

Here is a picture of the sheet from which Hoya cembra was named. This is not the true H.leucantha (Moore)![]() Dorothy. |

Hi! I recently ordered one of these from Logee's..Fragrant Wax Plant (Hoya odorata) I wonder what kind of hoya it will be? Here is a link to their site and a pic for reference. http://www.logees.com/Fragrant-Wax-Plant/productinfo/R1917-2... |

Jimmy...it is H. odorata. H. cembra has not been found. (Explanation: some people travel out into the wilderness, find a hoya, look for an identification and if they find NOTHING that shows the hoya they found has been published, they do the research and name it and publish it. OTHERS look thru Unpublished material and they find an interesting hoya with an Herbarium Sheet already made and the write up done correctly, they name it and publish it. Schlecter has many many collections from his travels, some of which have been written up but never published. The work/research involved with both processes is about the same.) Hope this helps. Leap. The net will appear. |

Please, post picture when you guys get it ....I am curious to see how big their plant is. I love the scent of odorata but it does not grow too well for me for some reason. I have 2 little cuttings in 2 pots now and hope they bud up. I find it takes a while to root also when you grow from cutting. |

Hi Carol...you are probably right.I checked out Teds site, and he states that paziae has no scent, but Kartuz site had it as fragranted. If the flowers look almost the same,I'd rather have the one that smells nice!lol |
