To answer your questions:
1) I've switched over about 1/2 dozen with good results, the latest, about 3 weeks ago a H. dennisii that I almost lost, it already has new growth. Just clean the root ball and cover it with pellets ( the trick is) at first only moisten the pellets every day for about 2 weeks, after that then add your standing water.
2) I bag them for about 2 months, then slowly open the bag.
3) I do replant most of SH grown Hoyas into a very loose mix for resale at about 6 months old, all do very well, But some I will continue to grow SH.
4) At this point I only use expanded clay pellets which are PH neutral. Carol is working with the growstones, I'll see what she thinks over time, Then I'll decide.
I use clear and colored pots for SH so I think the black would be fine.
