Dave has given us a new tool to work with. Articles. I'd love to have some articles in the Hunting and Fishing Forums and was wondering if any of you would be interested in writing them up. We have some very knowledgeable folks here and I'd like to try and increase our readership. The articles would do that because they are much more "googleable" than just the forums are. You can choose your own subject. If you are interested, let me know and I"ll get you set up to do the writing.

Can anyone think of something we could set up a database for? I've been racking my brain and am at a loss here. This is the only hunting and fishing type of place I frequent, so if you have ideas, please let me know.

Thanks, Janet

Well I took the plunge and wrote an article about my First Duck Hunt. This will give you all an idea of what the articles can look like. The regulars here have already read it, but hopefully someone new will come along that hasn't seen the story yet. Big Grin

I'm thinking of a couple topics maybe.... like game management, or a small portion thereof. I started an article of sorts on one of these threads, cant remember which one. Maybe a discussion of hunting "myths" that are no longer valid.... my favorite in this category is.... "dont shoot the spikes, let them grow up and mature". Any requests?

I was thinking about you earlier today. It's in the Little Bit of Trivia thread. That's the one I moved and you and BK were talking. The subject was fascinating. :-)

I like all of your ideas and think you ought to run with them. I think I have it set up now so that Cubit Members can access the article management area. If you can't let me know and we'll see what we can do to get you writing. :-)

Thanks so much Tom for the offer. I was hoping you would see this. You've got the know how to write awesome articles. :-)

Cool deal Tom. It's always hard to know what you can see from outside the management area. I'm glad you were able to get started. I like your favorite..."dont shoot the spikes, let them grow up and mature" and I think it would be a great one to start. You are welcome though to write on whatever subject you like. I think the more articles we have on a variety of hunting and fishing, the more traffic we will get. So the sky is the limit on subjects.

Photos of a subject are always a big draw on articles. So if you have photos, don't be bashful about using them. I'm not REAL proficient at inserting them into the test and making them work to have text wrap around them yet, but I'm learning. The editor is pretty friendly. I found that uploading the photos is the better way to go with more control over them than just using the little "tree" photo thingy up at the top of the toolbar. I also found that having the written article almost complete and THEN adding the photos works best for me. I can see what the text is actually going to do. They can be maneuvered though once inserted without deleting and reinserting. I know that all sounds a bit confusing, but once you get in there you'll see what I'm saying.

An article about Axis deer is something that you know about as well. When I was googling them when you asked about the food plot, there wasn't much that I found on them, other than talking about places where you could hunt them. With that subject, your photos would be a super bonus!

Dave has said that Youtube videos can be inserted into the articles. I don't have anything on Youtube, so haven't tried that out. But your brother's hand feeding the deer came to mind when Dave mentioned that.

I thought I should mention that the editor we have to write articles with works best with FIREFOX. Many folks who use Internet Explorer have had major issues with this editor.

Still looking for folks who would like to write an article. There are so many good hunting stories out there. Good information, written into an article will benefit all of our cubit members. A cubit with rich article based information and stories will also bring more traffic than just the chattingforums will.

Each article works like it's own forum, where you can start the topic with your article or story and the comments will work as threads. Articles are much more :Googlable" than just visiting.

If you are hesitant about writing an article, please let me know what's holding you back and I'll do whatever I can to help you along.

If anyone needs them, I've got plenty of photos to go along with just about any subject. Personally, I feel the photos add a lot to the articles. Being able to have more than one in a post just makes the articles so much more appealing and pleasing to the eyes than the forum posts.

Thanks,
Janet
