I have had blooms on these plants for months. I can not believe that only now I have cut them off and hopefully they will take a rest and give me the same amount of pleasure they gave me this year.

The center one is called Salmon Sunset .

I have never had a houseplant like this. It just never quits blooming. I bought several and they were just little...in no time they began to bloom and they bloomed all summer. I just love them. I would like to try and propagate them.
This one is called WOW!

Allison, these plants are so easy to grow, I am so surprised they are not more popular;. The enjoyment of months of beautiful blooms make them even more appealing. I am trying to propagate them but it is a very slow process. I have only two babies so far and that is of the Sinningia. No Streps. yet. Good thing I have other things to do. I would be chumping at the bit.
Stay warm my friend....not sure I am ready for the 30s just yet. Blinking

Can not believe the streps are still blooming. They are not pretty plants just now. I am wondering what I can do to make them happier. But, They are still blooming. I was hoping they would stop and I was going to cut leaves and try and propagate them. I did manage to get six babies from the Salmon Sunset. They started in Perlite. Another surprise for me.
I was able to get two Sinningia babies also. Not sure they will make it but I am trying. I must do some more research and see when the best time is to cut these plants. I would love to have some help if you have any ideas.

It is now almost the end of January and this winter has been very difficult for me since I am not a real snowbird. I do not mind the cold when the sun is shining but when it is cloudy and snowing and blowing every other day, it is a challenge for me to stay here in the North.

I found some relief the past few days bringing soil from the GH to my dining room table, working on cookie sheets and transplanted and took cuttings from the Streptocarpus and the African Violets. Now I am going to stress over where to put all these plants.

It is too difficult to try and keep the temperature and humidity stable for these little plants in this stupid weather, so I am keeping them in the house until the weather settles...thus I have a space problem. I will work it out.

The streptocarpus did get a bit cold on the window one night the temp went way down and even the double windows got cold inside. They showed signs of it on their leaves so when I repotted them I trimmed them back and this morning they look wonderful. Back on the windowsill and the heat under the windows is just enough to keep the chill off of them. I love the baseboard heat just for that reason. They do take more water but that is easy.I am not sure this was the time of year to trim and transplant them but it was the only thing that kept me from loosing it during this bitter cold and gloomy weather.

I am still not ready to take cuttings to trade on these plants but in the future I am hoping some one will find this thread and begin to talk and eventually we can trade streps.

Is there a common name for these? I have a feeling I've seen them and didn't know what they were!

The common name for them is "Cape Primrose" . Here is a wonderful link for anyone who wants to look up information on these plants.

On the right side is a section on propagation. It is so worth looking at. These plants are really fun to try and grow. Take a look and then get back to me and tell me what you think. I love it. I have tried it and if you like I will take a picture of my new babies.

Wow is one of my favorites of Piotr's. The original plant of Wow that I had gotten from Poland when it matured had 6 flowers on one flower stalk. The plant had a total of 18 flowers on it at one time. I gave many divisions away before the plant finally died. I have a baby coming along so I can't wait to see it bloom!

I can't help but wonder if I will ever have time to get more deeply involved in the Streptocarpus that I too will know who developed it.
I honestly never gave it a thought until you , Dave G. and the other people on your group began talking. Believe me, it makes me wonder how I will ever learn everything about these wonderful houseplants.

On the other hand, there are those people who buy a plant from Home Depot or Lowes and it does not even have a tag on it. Are they wrong to just buy it because it is pretty or am I wrong to want to know the name and where it came from. At my age I can't remember half of what I learn anyway, so I guess I am somewhere in the middle.Does it really matter. The plant will be just as beautiful with or without identity. Good grief, this snow is making me think crazy things.

Back to the real world. Lovey dubby I must do taxes today and get plants ready to ship, so off I go into the wonderful world of the IRS. Have a wonderful day and Happy President's Day to all who care that today is a holiday for some lucky individuals. More snow coming tonight.

No JB, it really does not matter. I am more of a name freak, I rather know the name but if it catches my eye I don't care. Here's one for you JB. Angel
