I am the proud "Mother" of these little creatures. They are Streptocarpus babies I started from leaves I acidentially broke off two of my plants.
The leaves were planted in potting soil and perlite mix 9/21/2013. I put them in a plastic container that was a lettuce container. I put water on the bottom, put the lid on and left them go. No holes in the cover. They sat on the south window sill during all the cold weather we had. The only heat they had was from the baseboard heat coming up under the curtain. I have sheer curtains and I keep them open so the heat can get on the bottom of these containers.

Sweet Sweet!!!! JB!

I've never tried Streps, but I am an African Violet failure. I love that you started these babies, though. They look very happy. Do you have any in bloom?

No babies, but I have one that is still blooming from last Spring. They just keep blooming. I finally got to repot a few others I have since they took a few weeks off from blooming and now those are beginning to show new growth and that means blooms by Spring again. They are so much easier than AVs. They like lots of water, not much sun but just enough light to keep them happy. They are to me the better of the two. I am not going to buy anymore AVs but there are some hybrid strep out there that are just magnificent. The Violet Barn has some real goodies. Ebay has some but you really need to know who you are buying from. There is a new Cubits on just Streps called StrepbyStrep and it has some yummy pictures and so much good information. Have you seen it yet?

I've seen it but haven't looked through the Cubit. Nice to know it's here, though.

I'm battling last night's snow today and am not entirely happy with the battle. I'll take a break from shoveling later and take a look at the Streps.

Dave, the one owner of the new cubits seems to be a really nice person and he is not selling anything but his love of streps. I think he has quite a following on Yahoo that may become new cubit fans. Wouldn't that be a shot in the arm?
We are having the snow now. TV went off for about half hour because the snow blocked the dish signal and it went dead. It is back on now.
I got up early, did my Yoga and now I am getting ready to get busy. I played around all morning. Off to be constructive. DO NOT OVERDO THE SHOVEL THING.
How is your daughter? I do hope she is better and stays well. I used to get headaches from MSG and I ate a lot of Chinese food. Now they make it without the MSG and I can eat it again. Amazing how some things can give you a migraine.

Thanks for asking, Jacquie, she's totally over the headache and the high blood pressure thing, the problem seemed to stem from very low potassium. But she's fine now and seems no harm done.

Still don't have the shoveling done.
Bah humbug.

Thank you for the kind words JB. The group is primarily streps but we allow Gesneriads. That forum is available as well even for AV's but yes, the focus of the group is on Streps. It's time AV's get a challenge!

I broke a leaf off a strep one day a few months ago and forgot I stuck it in some soil. Here is what it is today. No name but really healthy little guy.

Too many cats!!
Jacquie - Hurray! Hurray! Hurray! Hurray! That's wonderful! My house is too dry to do babies any more.. I was doing AVs pretty well, but got a different window & now the cats keep knocking off the plants, so can't put them there, and no other window in my house will work & the average humidity in my house is about 20-25%, so too dry for the most part.

It is exciting and you are so right about the humidity and the right window. I have been lucky with my AVs and Streps. But the Sinningia's are not too easy for me. I have two babies but they are like elephants and need water almost every day. They seem happy but the stock plant is not happy. Shrug!

My two new plants Neil's Mystic Lake and a Russian Chevrolet. This will be my first try at these plants.

They look really healthy. Can not wait to see their blooms. Thanks for posting.

I am about to spend some time repotting mine. I hate to do it too soon, but they are becoming top heavy. Growing like weeds.

The babies are big enough to go on eBay and so I bit the bullet and put them up today. I hope I can sell a few.
Here is what they look like now.

I thought it was difficult to give up the babies when I was breeding birds. Would you believe, I feel the same way about my streptocarps babies. I actually sold six of the babies of Salmon Sunset on eBay and it was a real sad time watching them go. They were so cute and a few had blooms when they left. I was worried about shipping with blooms but I wanted the people to see what they were getting. I even took pictures and sent the pics ahead of the plant just in case something would happen to it. The customers loved seeing what they were getting. The weather was so hot, I did not ship for three weeks due to the extreme heat of the day. I was afraid for the plants in those hot trucks even as carefully as I pack them.

Here is one of my babies that bloomed prior to being shipped.

This Cubit has been inactive for several years due to the fact that JB had a slight accident and had to sell all her plants and close her business. She has been slow recovering and anxious to again share her passion for plants in 2020.
