Here I am, a month later, finally having time to sit down and reflect on our past month of celebration, fun and lots of cookies and other good things to eat. I know I am not going near the scales for a few weeks. We were open every weekend since the weekend before Thanksgiving. We were not going to open early but everyone else did so we had no choice if we wanted to keep up with sales. People were ready for Christmas right after Halloween this year. Really sad because I think Thanksgiving is a wonderful holiday. It was almost forgotten this year. Sales were not as good as we thought they would be, but then we were not alone. Our neighbor, who brings in all his trees from Canada has quite a few leftover. Too bad, same thing happened last year. This year their poinsettias really did not sell. Usually she makes three trips to the wholesale place and this year she made the first trip and still had some left over. It was just a beautiful display and the plants were tremendous. People just did not have the money for trees and plants or whatever they were buying. They closed the day before Christmas and they brought me all their leftover corn muffins for my birds. They do that every year since he knows I used to buy them all summer....now I have enough in the freezer to last me all winter and part of the summer. They also gave us a very large wreath for the side of our little workhouse as well as a beautiful scarf (handmade that they sell) a home made apple pie the Mother baked with the leftover apples. We share all our imperfect trees, holly (red and yellow) and cuttings from other greens they use for all of their wreaths and grave blankets and other things. They send us business and we send them business so it is just a perfectly great relationship with loving neighbors who are like family. There are some really nice people in this world it you are lucky enough to find them. Fortunately we are lucky. Here is a shot of the big wreath. ![]() If anyone is interested in looking at more beautiful shots of the neighbor's place this is their Facebook page link. https://www.facebook.com/pages/Byrne-Farm-Market/29373478403... The Facebook page for RobLyn Farm is: https://www.facebook.com/RobLynFarm Enough for now. Will return with pictures of trees we sold and the customers sent us the pictures of them. |
