I agree Your article brought back fond memories of our all-too-short stay in Cairns several years ago. My wife and I were there with a tour group, so we had little time to do much exploring on our own. One the things I regretted not seeing was the botanical garden. Thank you for showing it to us.

Cairns was also my first introduction to fruit bats. I was relaxing on our hotel balcony at dusk the first evening there when a creature glided past that took my breath away. It must have had a wingspan of more than five feet! Not knowing what it was, I bounded downstairs to the lobby to ask what it was that I just saw. I was informed that I had met my first fruit bat. Later on, while strolling along the shore, I also discovered what a raucous creature they are when they all get together in the palms and what messes they can make in the process. I wouldn't want to park my car under one of those palms!
Cottage-in-the-Meadow Gardens: Come on in and take the tour! Check out the photos!
As a gardener: When planning for a year, I plant corn. When planning for decades, I plant trees. When planning for life, I train and educate people.

It's a jungle out there

Well, that is the effect I'm trying to achieve. This cubit is a tale of plants, of gardens, my continuing tussle with Mother Nature, and life in our tropics.
