Jon... Something is not right because when I click on the link it takes me to my home page, so something is not unlocked. I would suggest too putting Sharran on as an admid so she can take a look and fix the problem. She great, she helps so many of us. I even have her on as one of mine for problems. You can take her off after wards if ya want. |

It's showing on your home page, but not on ours. It has something to do with your control panel and 'forums' on that page, not preferences. No doubt you'll figure it out. |

Solving little issues like this is part of the learning process. So, it's a learning opportunity. I don't see anything labeled "control panels." So, I'm guessing that when you mention "control panels" you're speaking of the "reddish" banner across the top of the page with "cubits.org," "help," "Your account," etc ... is that correct? Nope. It's in a box on the top right of your Magpie cubit. |
When you go to the first page of your cubit, look to the right. You'll see Magpie, then below it says forums. Above where it says Magpie and forums, it should say control panel. It will also say control panel over each forum, so go to the one that isn't showing up and check your controls there. |

Thanks, Sharran ... does it work better now? I think I know where to go to make changes, whether I made the right ones or not remains to be seen. On the Alaska Photos and Commentary string, I posted some flowers for you. Hello, JC. I have just now seen your amazing photography and I couldn't wait to compliment you! Your work is so exciting to look at. Perfection. Thank you for posting!! |

Thanks Nap, Taking your advise on the Magpie string and moved it ... photos do bog things down a bit when it comes to loading. Good Suggestion. Thanks. I just got back from India and took lots of photos ... here are some of places we visited and things we saw. Enjoy. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() "Magpie" Jon Alaska images at the Magpie cubit - go to Alaska Photos and Commentary: http://cubits.org/Magpie/thread/view/42616/ Also Post under "Jon Deisher" on FB, LinkedIn & G+ (If you need an invitation, let me know) |

Your photos are all just stunning. I hope some day to visit Alaska. The closest I've gotten is Prince Rupert in BC. Maybe you've posted it somewhere, but, could you tell me what camera and lenses you use? Thanks, Deb |
Hi Deb, Thanks for the kind words, Deb. I use a Canon 20D ... various lenses: 100mm 1:2.8 macro , 17-40mm zoom, 70 - 300mm zoom with a 1.4 teleconverter, all are image stabilized. My wife and I share a 400mm telephoto, but we rarely use it except for distant shots using a tripod. Most of my shots are taken "in the moment" with a fairly fast shutter speed making use of a tripod awkward. If you're looking for a camera and want reliable data to help make a decision, go here: http://www.dpreview.com/ Incidentally, if you don't need the "latest and greatest," there are some very good cameras that you can get on ebay. I've had mine for a little over four years and I get good results with it so, for now, I'm not looking to upgrade. I don't think the 20D is in regular production any more ... a good thing about canon is that their lenses are interchangeable and transferrable to other canon cameras, so if you upgrade to another canon, your lenses will work on your newer camera. A nice selling point. Hello Folks, Here are some shots of a bear that wandered around our area a couple of days ago. It was about a mile and a half from our place when I caught up with it. Laura (my wife) saw it when she was headed toward town and called me on the cell. When I found it, it was a couple hundred yards from the high school. Several other people were there and it started to look a bit "nervous:" pacing back and forth, headed toward people then turning away. Finally, it took a break for the road, ran across traffic and disappeared in some trees. I didn't follow ... The other shots of spring alder leaves were taken later the same day. The sun's ray are getting very diagonal at this time of year, giving interesting shadows. Shots of local wild orchids, called "Fairy Slipper," are on the other photography page of my cubit. Enjoy. Looks like one very worried bear, Chris. Thanks for sharing. |

This time of year bears are very hungry. They have slept all winter and their fat reserves are used up, but the fish haven't arrived yet so they are interested in moose calves and smaller critters. I think he's more agitated and hungry than anything. He was coming toward me and I was backing up as I took the first shot above ... they he turned and ran ... Hello Folks, Been a little out of pocket lately ... summer tyme will dew that to an Alaskan. Got these images at the University of Alaska Botanical Gardens in Fairbanks. Most people would be surprised at how well flowers do there ... it's a floral paradise! We get up there several times every summer. I've migrated to GooglePlus ... you can find me there if you like. Hope you like these flower pics. Yes, I do like them! You are a marvelous photographer! |

I have missed you and your great photos! |

Thank you both. Don't worry ... I'm wandering "out there" but I'm not lost and I leave bread crumbs to find my way home! BTW ... have you heard of the Alaska Compass? It's a lady's compact. When lost, you open it up and look in the mirror. It won't tell you where you are or how to get home ... but it will tell you who's lost! I post images on Facebook and Googleplus, too ... AND on Cubits!
