Oh Jan I need your husband Big Grin
I have a lot of pics that have been picked up over the years that really need matted and framed. I have a beautiful water coloring that we picked up in the Bahamas from a local artist that has never been displayed as it needs good matting and framing. A couple of small oils from Venice and I'm not a hundred % sure where they are. *Blush*
I have been thinking about going to a local frame it yourself shop. I have an idea of what I want but haven't found the matting for the big pieces at the craft stores. Really it is more about just getting myself on task. I've done a few interesting things to frame pictures over the years but it is just the one thing that I keep putting off.

Holly, if you ever have the chance - I found a woman who does really nice work, inexpensively, through our local art society. Even if they don't have a member who does framing, someone will probably know the best place around.

I would say grab Jan, but I'm moving her and her DH here to help me, so.... Jan, do you like horses?

Oh my...so many talented people! I'm pretty much a jack of all crafts master of none. I love to crochet, crossstitch, write, photography, knit a lil, draw, make jewelry and bookmarks. I also have all my non crafty hobbies...hiking, fishing, canoeing, gardening, reading, etc..just too many to name.

Guess I should cut down on stuff, but I can never bring myself to.

Ah Sheryl, Go ahead and try to lure her away with promises of horses. LOL
Ric really can do the framing it just never seems to get done. Ric use to paint and draw but it has been a very long time since he has done any of that. I have absolutely no artistic skills I don't think I could draw a round circle and my painting skills are very limited. I do like to paint ceramics and can turn out a decent looking piece but that isn't any thing like having the ability to paint and draw. I guess I would say that I'm crafty but not artistic.
Here is one of my ceramic pieces it is a music box.

Speaking of hobbies, there were some beautiful hand made items from MA DGers on the gift table at yesterday's seed swap. Robin/Catbird is really talented.

Jan, I've always admired those hand made ships. They are such works of art. I knew a man who did them. He died a number of years ago. Just recently his wife gave me a very expensive kit to give to my DSO to build the "Vasa". It sunk on it's maiden voyage.

Here are photos of the original ship:

Read about it here:

I had seen the restored ship in it's museum on a trip to Sweden and had given my book about it to this man.

Jeff draws them not 3D. I've always admired how the ships in a bottle are done. He's working on one of the USS Constituiton for an auction at his school this weekend. In doing his research for this he's found that some other pictures that have been done through the years are inaccurate as to the number of yardarms and sails that they put in or didn't put in. I guess that's artistic liscense, but I should think it should be accurate.
He also is contributing a bookcase he made.

Jan I love pencil drawings. Is that what he does? We had a friend that did old trail stations they were very detailed. I bet your husbands are just beautiful. Ships would have so much detail.
WOW Stormy that is some beautiful ship. How cool.

Holly, it is a beautiful ship. Too bad it sunk on it's maiden voyage.

Jan, I've always wondered how they got those ships in the bottle. Confused

Me, too.

Jeff did a picture of the USCG's tall ship, the Eagle, since one of our sons went to the USCGA in CT. Anyway, Sam got permission for the original of his father's picture to be hung in the officers' quarters on board. We went down to see it when the ship was docked at the Inner Harbor in Baltimore.

Thanks. I'll relay the reactions to Jeff.

AT this point, I think it would be wise of Sam to stay in to at least hit 20 yr. He's half way there. Too bad the 4 yrs at the Academy don't count. He really wanted to teach there. I hope that opens up for him. Last year there was a position that he wanted to apply for, but his commander wouldn't release him from his duties. Right now, he is a liasion officer for something ( I can never remember LOL) that has to do with their 2 Arctic ice-breakers whose home port is Seattle. His office is in Baltimore. Go figure. He does travel out there periodically. Sometimes he even gets to visit his brother in Portland, OR.

Beautiful Jan!
It happens in a flash, but the memory of it last forever. It can not be borrowed or stolen, and it is of no earthly good until it is given away. So if in your hurry you meet someone who is too weary to smile, leave him one of yours, for no one needs a smile quite as much as he who has none to give...
