I had been told years ago to use Thompson's Deck water proof on my ceramics that I wanted to let out side. I never did try it and nowadays there is so many other products to choose from. I try to bring in most of my pots and garden art in the winter but you don't always want to do that. That big old birdbath I have stays outside in the weather all year round and I don't treat it or cover it but there isn't much else outside.

I bought the sealer at Sherwin Williams, I can't remember the name of it right now but it's probably not what you should use. It worked on the outside of my sphere project but I did read the instructions and it specifically said not to use for areas of "standing water". Sticking tongue out When I added the water to the sphere yesterday the dark green painted interior started turning white. Grumbling There are a lot of 'concrete sealers' available and I'm going to have find one that will hold up to the standing water. Rolling my eyes. I'm pretty sure the guy at the local hardware store recommended something to use when I was looking to seal the stone address plaque earlier this year. Not sure if it work with standing water but when I do a little more research I'll let you know what I find!

Deb, There is a concrete cubit here where they talk about making concrete things and painting them.

I haven't been there lately but that Cubit seemed kind of 'quiet'. I'll probably ask Chris (goldfinch) what she used. Her "blue" sphere was what originally inspired me! Thumbs up

Somebody told me that the Big Lots was having a great sale on their pots now.

I often find beautiful pots at Ross. these beauties are about 16" tall. I got them at Ross for about $14 each last summer.

Wow, Ross has pots? I had no idea! Blinking

I picked up a really nice pot at Big Lots in Richmond for $12. It has a fern imprint on it and once I finally decide "which" Fern is going to be planted in it I'll get a photo. Big Grin

Yes, Deb Ross has lots of pots. Here's another pair that I got there. These are about 16" tall and 16" across. They were also around $12 each.

And all these years I've steered clear of Ross because I thought it was "just" clothing! Next time I'm near one I'm definitely checking it out - thanks! Thumbs up

It's a shame Deb. Most of those types of stores have cleared a lot of their garden merchandise out already. One of the Ross in our area actually has a "garden room". A separate room of nothing but gardening related things. I have a friend who always gets a lot of pots and garden art at Tuesday Morning

Sheesh, can you tell I don't get "out" much? I've never even heard of Tuesday Morning! Hilarious! I had to check it out and I found one in Harrisonburg - my trip to the Craft Fair and Ollie's in two weeks now has one more destination! Big Grin

Deb, You will probably like Tuesday Morning. They have some very good kitchen & entertaining wares as well as nice decorator items & linens. They also get a very nice assortment of holiday items, particularly christmas cards and napkins & paper plates. They usually have quite a selection of Gaspari items.

It's also a good place to check for lamps and rugs.

Oh I just visited my first Tuesday Morning a couple of months ago picked up the cutest ceramic fall pumpkins. Glazed off white with metal leaves. They had some other things I would have loved to pick up, too.

Whoo Hoo is right!!! I can't get there until a week from Friday though. Sad Maybe I'll be lucky, can't imagine too many people are actually looking for pots this time of year? Big Grin

I've actually got a surplus of pots right now. Don't think I'll be buying any for quite some time.

Rolling on the floor laughing Rolling on the floor laughing You crack me up Holly!! I definitely had too many plants in the house last year. I am being very selective this year and will also send some into dormancy in the basement this year. I've kept my geraniums blooming continuously for 20 years. I think they finally deserve a nap!!
