My apologies Karen, I remember reading the article on Janet's Cubit when it first appeared in April but somehow we never provided a link from MAM? It's a wonderful article and deserves its own thread to encourage all of us to comment on your incredible photography skills. You go girl! Thumbs up

From a Nikon girl to a Canon girl, lol - I love Barn Owls, too! A rather undignified name for such an exotic looking creature, but they're gorgeous.

Karen, I really like those neat shots of the Archways. Do you have more? Boy, would you have a blast in Rome, Venice, Paris and Montreal. Get your list in order, gal!! Big Grin The former Dutch West Indes have a lot too.

Wow! I am speechless! *Blush*

I don't know what to say to you all... but thank you! Thanks for the nice thread and link Stormy! And thank you all for your support! I did not know this was here (thanks kind reader...) until just now. I appreciate all the nice comments! I am just so happy everyone enjoys my work... I love sharing what I see and the stories that often go with it.

Yes Stormy... I do love arches! I don't have many other images at this time but there are places that fascinate me... some more local than your suggestions. Rock Creek Park in Washington DC has some gorgeous arched bridges, but there are few places to pull over and take photos.

Thank you all again!

Karen

It seems that many other people like Karen's arch photos too. Karen shared with me that she won a prize for one of them at the local Fredericksburg Photography show that she recently entered. Thumbs up Thumbs up

Ditto! There's a wonderful stone arch along I-81 South, not very high so I think it might have been from old train tracks? Every time we go whizzing by I check it out, wishing I had the time to stop and take a few photos. There's also an old barn traveling in the opposite direction (I-81 North) that I've love to figure out how to get close enough to take photos of. It's getting to the point now where the trees are growing so tall around it if I don't grab the opportunity in the next few years you won't be able to see it! Thumbs down

Oh Karen, That one is magnificent! I tip my hat to you. Love the arches as well as the reflection in the river. The glimpses of the trees through the arches is beautiful. But the real clincher is the geometry of the squares on the train cars vs the vertical rectangles in the bridge and the roundness of the arches. The train gives it motion and life. It's an entire essay in one photo. Thumbs up Thumbs up Book book book!!

I didn't like the brush in the left side of the frame, but I literally shot that from the hip when I heard the train's whistle. I got off about three shots in continuous mode before the train was past.

Well, I like the way the tree arches over towards the train. It implies a destination.

Beautiful Karen, I love the Pelican shot!!

What lens and camera do you have? My lens is the Sigma 50-500mm 4/12 lbs. My camera is Canon Rebel XT. I got a good deal on the lens from Ebay a few years ago. Your pictures are outstanding any tips would be more than greatly appreciated

Ahhh... you have the Bigma! That is a nice lens, and I have considered that one myself, but I think next on my wishlist is the Canon 100-400mm L lens. It is a whopping 7 lbs! I have a Canon T1i and currently use the 70-300mm lens. I enjoy using and viewing others' photos on Flickr, and I often view their EXIF data... the information that says what settings they used for a particular shot. I have learned alot about exposure that way. I have also made a couple good friends there that have been helpful with advice. I also still keep up with the Bird Watching group on DG. I have come a long way in one year, as I had just bought my camera last year before this same vacation.

Thanks for tthe comments all!
