I just used the Great Health Care Resources, Mayo Clinic , link to look up Xanax for Mom. Very helpful.
I addded a link for Md State Heatlh office overseeing assisted living, rehab etc. Lots of help there in locating places and getting some info before you go, and you can download inspection reports too. No inspection will be perfect but better facilities should not have too many things in need of correction.

Sal, I'm glad that you found it helpful. It has been a good resource for me. From your days as a health inspector you should have a good insight into those health care facility inspection reports.

I did get to visit a few along with the real nursing facility inspectors.
I am sure you understand that you can't look at a place and see some violations and think OMG how awful. But they will pobably indicate what kind of violations, severity, corrective measures--probably every place has staffing problems but if you compare one to another then one may be worse .
Unfortunately for some, the tastiness of the food is probably not on the report Hilarious!

Hilarious! I'm sure that it isn't. No, every facility will have some violations. The point is to look for those who have the fewest and who have shown consistent corrective measures.

I find doctors are of no help anymore, they just treat the symptoms and don't find what actually causing the problem...who should I go see to see if I have allergies? an allergist or ear, nose, throat dr???

IMHO I would see an allergist first since that is their specialty. Rule them out, and then an ENT.

I just came in here looking for a place to post this article and looks like it's going to be handy for Jen at least. It has some handy tips on how to reduce allergens in your home so your fall allergies won't be so bad.

http://www.vocalpoint.com//_500001802/Articles/Keep_sneezes_...

I'd add a couple of notes. On the bleach to kill mold - bleach doesn't kill mold, vinegar does. Bleach just bleaches it out so you don't see it. So use straight vinegar vs water and bleach mix.

After years of suffering with allergies all spring and fall, I finally broke down and got an air purifier. I got this one for downstairs and it helps a lot. I especially like that it senses when there's anything in the air that needs to be cleaned and sets itself into high until it's cleared up. That saves a lot of energy. And it's very quiet. For those who hate dusting, it makes a big difference in the amount of dust in the room.

I guess this is the one I have. It was on sale for a LOT less than the price listed here, about half price.

Recently I was given this one for the bedroom. Don't like it nearly as well although it is also helping. It's very loud unless you have it on the lowest setting, you have to manually change the settings because it has no sensor. Not bad but not as good as the Idylis one.

I really hate taking medicines for my allergies. The antihistamines turn me into a zombie. All of them make my mouth extremely dry.

Oh, two other things to try. Don't just check your faucets and so on for leaks. Try to check your pipes. A few years ago, my allergies went stark, raving nuts. Way worse than normal and it lasted for months and months. Finally, I went down to the cellar (it's creepy, I don't go down there often) and a fairly hidden pipe was dripping. Got the pipe fixed, my allergies settled down.

Also, check your pillow. I found switching to a non-allergy pillow helped some. I also either wash and dry on hot the pillows or more often just run the pillows through the hot cycle on the dryer.

Jen, I had really good luck with that Nasonex, but it does take 3 weeks to a month to build up in your system.

Ok, so I have a sinus infection. The dr will be doing a skin test for allergies in a couple weeks, she would have done it today but I'm sick.
I really liked her, she said she won't treat anything till she finds out the cause(yay for her) gave me points for keeping the dog in the lower part of the house and no where near the bedrooms, points for having a waterbed but demerits for having feather pillows(she said get rid of those right now)
She told me the Nasonex side effects don't really happen with the spray, maybe nose bleeds, she actually will recommend that for pregnant women. So I should not be afraid to use it. She said NEVER use Claritin, makes it worse, use Musinex D which you have to ask the pharmacist for it's behind their counter. So she wrote me a script for anitbiotics and then I'll find out in a couple of weeks what (if any ) allergies I have.
