| When I was in school, I felt compelled to play a sport every season. As an adult, I have had six or seven activities that I enjoyed for years and still do a few. What sports and physical activities have you enjoyed? Photo: DaylilyDiva219

| Every fall at school, I played on the Field Hockey Team. During the winter, It was the school bowling team. In the spring I played on the school Lacrosse team. What sports did you play in school? |

| I was on our high school rifle team -- letter jacket & everything. I tried out for the team mostly because I thought it would be interesting to learn to shoot a gun. I was shocked when I made the first cut... and I had no idea I'd made the team... I was stopping by to thank the coach for the time he'd taken with me and just about fell over when he said "congratulations!" LOL It's not the most jock-like of sports, but I had a great time. There were only a couple of girls on the team my first year, but by the time I was a senior, half our team was girls. That was at a time when most teams had no girls... so of course we all wore out tightest jeans on match days, too see if we could distract the competition.  We'd be getting off the bus, and guys from the other team would come up an enviously ask the guys on our team how they managed to get girls to come along and cheer them on... our guys got a huge kick out of telling them not only are those actual team members, but that chick with the long blond hair is our star shooter! Somehow or other, that doesn't surprise me, Critter. I never went to a school with a shooting team, although most of them had Archery teams.  |

| LOL.. surprises a lot of folks; I don't come across a gun-totin' type. Back in the day, when I told somebody I was on the rifle team, they generally assumed I meant the squad that twirled wooden rifles and marched with the band. I was also a bandie... French horn in concert band (also district/regional orchestras and pit orchestra for our high school musicals), tenor sax in jazz band, but they made me march with a flugelhorn -- cheap instrument with a remarkably soggy tone.  I had a brief stint in the university marching band, playing sousaphone. Now, that's a fun instrument! Our high school fielded a big marching band... I think we had at least 200 players, plus probably another hundred by the time you added up color guard, majorettes, "rifle" squad, etc. WTAE announcer for the community day parade: "Here comes the Plum High Marching Band! They're coming over the hill now... and they're still coming... and they're still coming!!" Circles of Support for Breast Cancer I'm learning to dance in the rain! | LOL Bet it was a lot of fun. I still try to go every couple of years down to the St. Patty's Day parade in Philly to catch some of the school bands. The schools do such a nice job. |

| AS an adult, I played on a women's softball team. I was the catcher. I really liked getting back into it every season. |

| In high school we didn't have ANY girls' teams, but everyone always asks me if I played basketball. LOL I have played volleyball in a recreation league for about 24 years, but stopped in the last few, due to injuries. I played first base in a softball league for a few years also. |

Jan, Volleyball is sooooo much fun. I used to like to play it too. Have you also played Wolleyball? I used to play in a mixed adults group. That was loads of fun.  That's us waiting to smash down that serve!! |

| I never was a sporty girl...but I did hike parts of the Appalachian Trail with my father, camped, fished, canoed, swam in the rivers and creeks. Those were my sports:) mama of a 7yr old Wolf Scout. wife of wonderful hubby of 9 yrs:) Secretary of Pack Committee 284 Asst Den Leader,PTO mama,SAHM |

| We love camping. Always went to the same primitive park in the Adirondacks. Brown Tract Pond in Raquette Lake NY. The boys loved it. Jeff also did several 100 mile canoe trips there with the boys. Never played wolleyball.. Is that like dodgeball? I did learn to never try to block a spike by your 6'3" son though. OUCH!!! That was an ER visit. |

| Yikes! Jan, Wolleyball is Volleyball played inside in a racketball type of court. There is no out of bounds. The ball is always in play. Those wall richochets get crazy! Lots of fun and you're right, watch out for those big powerful guys. I learned how to drop to the ground or get out of the way really fast playing Wolleyball. |

| It is fun & is a total workout!! I used to sweat like a pig and some of the women looked so beautiful. Not so much fun to look so gross when playing with guys. |

| Welll--- In High School-- kind of fresh in the USA--I did not really know much of anything---too busy learning the language and the culture over here.....hard times.... Anyway--I went to an all-girl's HS (Eastern High--now long gone) here in Baltimore. Just across the street was the all Boys High School.... The boy's HS was called City College and it looked like a prison fortress. All made of gray stone with a tower . Almost like a medieval castle.... To me--this was all new-----However--I chose Archery as my sport and continued it until graduation. We were undefeated! Believe it or not--I still have my bow from HS in the rafters of my basement. It was just a wooden bow with a string. Every time we used these--we had to "string it". We had to create our own "sights"--like a small stick in the ground you would aim for to hit the target. I guess my claim to fame (teee..heee...) was that I once shot an arrow at the bulls eye and split someone else's arrow lengthwise that was already in it----just like in Robin Hood. Fast forward a few years..... The love of my life became REAL Volleyballl--the competitive kind---the practice twice a week kind---the live, eat, breathe kind of Volleyball. NOT recreational--but killer type, real V-Ball. We traveled to out of state tournaments --regularly. As the years went by--I became more and more hooked on this sport. I even met my husband through Volleyball. He was as addicted as me--and all the other people we all knew. It simply became a way of life! We had children--and that did not stop me, nor my Husband. My Mom helped a lot with baby-sitting...... I played competitive V-Ball for over 20 years with progressively better and better teams. We were undefeated on the East Coast USVBA (United States Volleyball Association) women's teams for almost 10 years. I self-retired from actively playing this kind of V-Ball when I turned 40. Seems I had, by then, become just the driver for all the resat of the team and then, when we got to the Tournament--I ended up sitting on the bench. I guess I was an "old foggie" by then.....message received! To still satisfy my need to lead a Jock-life--I took up tennis and played that for about 7 yrs. Anyway--overlapping my playing--and my retirement from V-Ball --I had also become a State and Reagionally certified Volleyball official. I did this for 14 years--"working" high school matches, College matches, USVBA tournaments and also various league matches in the Baltimore area. Good $$$--bad hours!. All this came to an end when it became a necessity for me to get a job--and I could no longer do referring with most of the games being played at 3PM or so. My Mom also was getting older and more unstable--so that was another factor. Since then--life entered a mundane, predictable, everyday type of a period. All out values changed--all the friends were different..... Our life-focus was all re-directed to different things.....Saddly--the beginning of the end. To this day--I think that, when I married, Volleyball, and the fact that we both were from the same countries, was the ONLY thing we had in common. Our marriage floundered, and infidelity raised it's head. We divorced in 1993. HA!!!! Now, in 2009, I took up playing Volleyball again at a good League (mostly men) at a local Senior center. And--I still keep in touch with some of the men that played V-Ball on my husband's team. They were all so young and so hungry! I used to feed them all.....I still like to feed people! We are all seniors by now---but the memories will never fade! What a fabulous life we had! And--besides all that--an amazing connection with the Ethnic Group for 25 years...Festivals, Parties, crazy times, drinking and partying....Going to each other's houses...to the beach--to different states and countries for their Worl-Wide festivals....What a life! My girls still say that no other kids they knew had a life such as they did! SO! Now I garden........Gita....:o)) |

 Gita, That's quite a story! No wonder you're in such great shape. It sounds like you had quite a lot of fun. It's great that you took of refereeing too. It's wonderful that you are playing again.  |

| Gita I enjoyed the story too, though I have heard some of it on our rides. Like Jan, I am an always asked but never played "Bball player" Well I did take a class for the credit, and was horrible. All I know is the difference between man on man and zone defense. And when you have kids, and have a THIRD kid, you and spouse have to switch from man ton man, to zone... Like dixie, I'd rather get all my exercise with outdoorsy naturey stuff. I did play Walleyball a few times, it was fun. I'm pretty uncoordinated tho, with all sports, and afraid the ball will hit me!
