On our way home I saw a sign about a 5 mile walk/run in one of the small towns near us. I think I will drive over there and see just what it said. Life is Great! If nothing else, the cooler weather is getting me out and about more. I have taken short walks the past three days. Lots of chores are making my feet sore, but the rest of the body feels better for doing the exercise. |

The walk was this past Sat just hadn't taken down the sign yet. There is a web site with local events I'm going to see what else there might be for me to do. I know just how you feel Stormy seems like everytime I get on a roll to try and get a bit healthier something comes up. Even when I start out slow and don't push too hard or too fast I seem to end up with some type of injury. Life is Great! I'm prob not as good as I should be...but walking Philly is prob doing me some good. I'm just tired though...so I think I need a break and then I can get back to working up to 13 mi by next Sept:) Gonna try to get there...but I think I'll take a break from regulated activities until after Jamie's bday on the 25th...then I'll go back to regulated workouts and walks. I'm just gonna do what feels good:) mama of a 7yr old Wolf Scout. wife of wonderful hubby of 9 yrs:) Secretary of Pack Committee 284 Asst Den Leader,PTO mama,SAHM |

Those really long walks are tough on the shins and hips. Even when I was your age and used to walk 5 to 7 miles daily, I had to take off at least 2 days week to let them recover. The longest walk I ever did was 28 miles. That was back in the 70's and i was young enough that it didn't even bother me. i think I wore Earth Shoes for that one. The only kind of sneaks around then were Keds. |

:) You are right...my shins are killer. I don't know why they hurt so much from walking on the road and sidewalks...cuz I'm fine after 6 miles on trails...but not anything else. They hurt bad then:( mama of a 7yr old Wolf Scout. wife of wonderful hubby of 9 yrs:) Secretary of Pack Committee 284 Asst Den Leader,PTO mama,SAHM |

I grew up in the city Harrisburg. Back then we walked almost every where. Since then the most walking I did was when the kids were little and I would take them on pony rides. I would saddle up the pony and put one of the kids on it and start walking. Julie got her first pony for her 3rd Birthday and I fell and broke my ankle that same week. Just a small break and the Dr put on a walking cast. I kept going back to him because I was wearing out the bottom of the cast taking her for rides, we are talking 3+miles. Finally after 3 weeks and 3 casts my Dr said do you have a good pair of tight boots? Just go home and put them on. ![]() Life is Great! I've been thinking that maybe I should go down to Josh's house and walk there. It's pretty flat and I could take Cody with me. He needs some leash training. He still pulls and wants to walk ahead of you. Life is Great! Well Josh got hurt a couple of months ago. He was trying to keep to his regular activities but the injury just isn't getting better. He will be off work for a couple of weeks resting and going to PT. Walking Cody on a leash doesn't help with the injury so I was thinking yesterday that if I went down I could work with Cody and get my walking in. Life is Great! Holly- go right out and get an EasyWalk harness. The leash hooks up on a cheststrap. It makes ALL the difference. Addy was impossible on collar and leash. Don't know why but EasyWalk works great! My friend also said she'd carry a pocket of treats and keep talking to the dog and give a treat once in a while. kept the dog focused on her more than on the trail. Sounds good Sally. I have never had to try to train an animal to do anything. I only ever had poodles and they just always seemed to do whatever we told them to. They were potty trained by their owners as small pups. |
