hart, if you're still watching this thread, I just wanted to thank you again. I realized what a huge mistake it was not to pick up some of the things I liked at the gem show in Harrisonburg last month. I came back to this thread to find your link to Toteshows and found another gem show near Roanoke the end of this month! I've already made plans with friends and we're on for another trip to a gem show and this time I'm not going to come home empty-handed! Thumbs up

I haven't been to any of these in quite a while (and some not at all), but I thought they were worth mentioning for anyone looking for things to do after Thanksgiving:

The Northern Virginia Handcrafter's Guild is having their annual Art & Craft Show on November 26, 27 & 28 in Vienna, VA

http://www.nvhg.org/

===================================================

The Shenandoa Potter's Guild is having their annual Holiday Sale November 27 & 28, in Winchester, VA:

===================================================

The Del Ray Artisans are having their Holiday Market on December 4 & 5 in Del Ray (Alexandria area) VA

===================================================

The town of Leesburg is having a Holiday Fine Arts & Craft show on December 4th

===================================================

The Sugarloaf Craft Festivals have a number of venues, but there are two coming up soon:

Gaithersburg, MD - November 19, 20 & 21
Chantilly, VA (Dulles Expo Center) - December 10, 11 & 12

Thanks for the list Barb! I tip my hat to you. I had been searching for craft shows in hopes of finding one for a little Christmas shopping. Unfortunately they're ALL so far away! Thumbs down We do have a few local events here and no offense to those who have exhibited there in the past....but their items really aren't "gift worthy". Whistling

Deb, I believe Charlottesville has a Holiday Market every Saturday, at least that's what some vendors told me at the final Nelson County Farmer's Market last month. Let me do some checking...

There is also a lovely artists' co-op gallery in "downtown" Nellysford, in the little strip shopping center with the IGA grocery. It's at the end of the row, near the new Wild Wolf Brewing Company. It's a lovely place to shop for gifts. That's a little bit closer to you than Northern VA! Big Grin

Thanks Barb - my friends plan a trip to a Farmer's Market in Nellysford at least once a month, not sure if it's the one you mentioned or not? They've been bugging me about going with them, maybe I'll finally make it when they head in that direction next month!

That is the one I mentioned (and which we talked about in person at Lewis Ginter, I think). It's closed for the season at the outdoor location, but has moved indoors, and it's on the first Saturday of each month at the Rockfish Valley Community Center (adjacent to the soccer field and recycling center). We haven't been to the indoor version yet, so I can't say if it's worth the trip or not. IF we're down there on the 4th of December, I'll make a point to scout it out for you! The outdoor one will reopen on the first Saturday in May next year.

If you were referring to the Charlottesville one that I posted the link to, that's a separate entity, and IN Charlottesville.

No, I really avoid going to Charlottesville, HATE traveling up over Afton Mountain! The friend who heads to Nellysford is in Florida right now but I'll be checking with her as soon as she gets back. We're scheduled to head to the gem show in Salem this weekend but snow in the forecast might wreak havoc with our plans. Thumbs down

I hear you on that. We have to go over it to get to Waynesboro, but prefer going there to do our "big box" shopping rather than Charlottesville. It's nice to have it (Charlottesville) nearby, but not easy to get around quickly.

We've also been lucky on Afton Mtn, no fog yet. Actually would probably not make the trip if it was foggy.

Oops, forgot to come back! I remember the first time I encountered fog on Afton Mtn. I asked Rick what the "flares" were in the middle of the road?? Confused After traveling to Richmond one weekend with one disabled windshield wiper in a blinding thunderstorm I know how important those lights are!! Blinking

I did make it to the Gem Show in Salem last weekend, despite the heavy traffic on I-81 from the Virginia Tech/UVA game! Grumbling I expected this show to be larger than the one I attended in Harrisonburg last month but was disappointed there were actually fewer vendors. Thumbs down Regardless, it was fun...spent three hours looking for gems for mosaics and picked up a couple of gifts as well. Thumbs up

This looks like it might be fun, and the sun is shining today!

It happens in a flash, but the memory of it last forever. It can not be borrowed or stolen, and it is of no earthly good until it is given away. So if in your hurry you meet someone who is too weary to smile, leave him one of yours, for no one needs a smile quite as much as he who has none to give...
