Penn's Peak is located in the southern end of the Poconos, just above Jim Thorpe.

We stopped and took a photo of just part of the view from the parking lot.
That little dip in the middle of the mountains in the distance is the Delaware Water Gap on Rt 80.Thumb of 2010-10-03/woodthrush/682334

Pam I'm not sure what you are trying to include in this thread. Is it live music? What's with the food?

Oh, yes it's a breakfast, lunch and dinner place also. I thought some good places to eat while traveling would be good too. Please feel to move it if you want.
Yes, it is live entertainment, dancing, and other special events are held there also.

I just wanted to add the info for a fun Apple Festival held each year in Albemarle County, VA:

http://www.vintagevirginiaapples.com/harvestfest.htm

It's this Saturday, November 6, and would be a great day trip for those who live in VA, and a nice weekend for anyone who's looking for a quick getaway.

I haven't attended yet, but my next-door neighbors went last year, loved it, and are going back again on Saturday.

We have visited the Cider Works on the property, and enjoyed their offerings tremendously. Thumbs up

That looks like fun Barb. Are the vintage apples different varieties?

Yes, they have many different varieties, some available year-round, not just at the festival. Our neighbors brought us a sampler back last year, and I believe there were at least 5 varieties in the bag they gave us.

I tried some heirloom apples from a local market this week and so far, two varieties were excellent. Now, if I could just find those same ones again!

There are so many of them out there, and the supplies vary widely by location. It's hard when you find a "winner" and then have a hard time getting more...

"Black Twig" has always been one of my favorites - great taste: crispy, crunchy and not too sweet. Thumbs up

I used to sell at Marshall's Creek Market. Don't get down that way much now
But I'll let you know. I'm just a few minutes from Big Boulder and Split Rock.

Bitbit was asking about the Maple festival in Highland County Va. Has anyone ever been to it?

No, we haven't, but we've heard good things about it. Highland County is beautiful. I think the festival is in Monterey, VA, and is an annual tradition. It is on our "one of these days" list, not that helps Bit! *Blush*

Thanks Barb!

It's been on my "one day" list for a few years now (well, since I first heard of it Hilarious! ). My husband and I are just looking to make a long weekend of it, because by the end of winter I usually need some kind of break. The hardest part is always finding either a dog-friendly place to stay or someone to watch the pup at home.

I think most of the festival is in Monterey, but there are farms and processing operations throughout the county that have tours and food.

You're welcome, Bit, but I sure didn't have much concrete information to offer you! Sticking tongue out

If you do go, please post here afterward, to let us know what's there, your thoughts and maybe some photos. Whistling

Thanks!

Oh I know, but it was nice to chime in anyway. Most people look at me like I have two heads when I mention something like the maple festival.

I'll definitely post an update, and see what I can do about photos. I'm awful at remembering to take them Whistling

Oh no, a Maple Festival sounds great! Maybe it's people at your age who still have other interests. We older folks are easily entertained. Hilarious! Hilarious!

Virginia Beach (well, Pungo, which is the southern part of VB) has a strawberry festival, and Richmond has a watermelon festival... but there aren't many things in season during March, so it's the perfect time for maple. I do really enjoy this kind of event.

Things like that are always fun. One of these days it would be fun to go to a garlic festival.

We have a Garlic Festival every year in Shawnee, PA, just above Stroudsburg. Lots of fun and entertainment and good food except for the garlic ice cream which we couldn't even generate interest in our 3 year old grandson (ice cream lover). He said "this looks sooo good but it doesn't taste like ice cream".
