Well, I finally got the Caladiums planted. But this year I put them in the ground. For the most part, my planters are full of herbs. I think I'll toss some annual seeds in them and see what if anything comes up.
Dish gardens with succulents have peaked my interest this year. I've made a couple small ones so far.
I bought the book Succulent Container Gardens (just look at that bold print, Stormy!). It is really filled with amazing photos.

Very Very nice Pam. I love those succulent planters and have wanted to try my hand at one. Last year we were all talking about doing them in Hypertufa. You should see RCN's husband Rick's succulent containers. They are awesome and Hugh.
Allison normally does some very interesting planters with a lot of rock and gravel too. Don't know if she did any this year.
Yay, for the bolding. Isn't it empowering when you learn some new computer skill? Now if I could just figure out why my new MAC won't copy and paste.
That sounds like a good book. Thanks for posting it. They had some wonderful succulent and cactus dish gardens this year at the Philly Flower Show. They were really magnificent.
I left them outside.... to see if they would live or not.. 2 of them died... the others are doing very well... the one with the 2 trees .. one died and one is doing great... the thyme is taking over... might just stick a coleus in where the dead one is

It is amazing at what will overwinter when just left outside. I was very lucky this year, both indoors and out. I pulled the purple Oxalis out of the containers last fall and kept them growing in the house all winter. I just recently planted them in the beds. This fall I plan to dig them up and break off a couple of the bulblets and pot them up for indoors. Then I should have some for next spring's containers and hopefully the ones in the beds will survive too.
I left them on the retaining wall... figured it would be warmer by the roots... and the one in front was under my Rodie... buried in the snow... my thoughts were... I don't have room to keep them in the house... if left out in the unheated greenhouse... I would forget to water them... so best left to nature... what lives .. will live
If we go to Fla again this winter, I won't be heating the greenhouse, so I'll have to bring in the tender succulents for the winter. I can leave them in the house while we're gone and probably heat the greenhouse starting in late Feb. Propane and electric has just gone too high to heat. It's cheaper just to buy new plants in the spring, than heat the gh to over winter them.
lol - yeah, learn something new all the time. I've been on various yahoo groups a very long time and not much on forum format.
Pam, I love your Succulent Dish Garden. I haven't done anything quite like that yet. I did have a couple of nice succulent pots last year. I have this really pretty blue cluster pots and I can't find it anywhere. I don't remember it getting broken but I sure don't know where it is. I also planted my old work boots they looked pretty good but I never did get around to replanting them this year. Here is a picture of my succulent pots from last year.
