It happens in a flash, but the memory of it last forever. It can not be borrowed or stolen, and it is of no earthly good until it is given away. So if in your hurry you meet someone who is too weary to smile, leave him one of yours, for no one needs a smile quite as much as he who has none to give...

Centipedes eat roaches (AND spiders). They are cute because they are so shy....I have never had any appear further upstairs though then on the wall up the stairs from the basement. Now and again I even speak to one.

No need for answering directly. I merely thank him for his contibution. He and his, keep me otherwise bug free. He just sits silently and humbly; pretty little guy.

Mine always ran around like crazy. Busy little bodies. I really was quite fond of them. They fascinated me.

Bright and pretty pair of pics.
THat bug looks a bit like a Milkweed bug which is a Lygaeidae (sp?) seed bug, but I don't wuite think the color pattern matches my recall of Milkweed bugs.

That is a boxelder bug.
Sally, I was thinking the same - if you guys lived closer, I would bottle up the centipedes and bring them on over.

Oops - Not a boxelder - a milkweed bug.

We use to have a poster over on Gardenbuddies for a short time that took the most incredible bug shots. His name was ScottP from PA and had an awesome lens. He doesn't post anymore but here is a link to some of his insect portraits. Incredible, incredible shots. GB will let you see a couple of pages but will then ask you to register because of server problems EJ had in the past. It doesn't cost anything and its a nice international site. No advertising either.

Anyway, thought you would enjoy.

Those are great shots Loretta. Thanks for posting it. I tip my hat to you. Makes you wonder why he stopped posting.

I saw 3 beautful butterflies today, but never when I had the camera in hand.

I don't know why he stopped posting. People come and go on the forums. It can be time consuming posting photos. Here is one more of his.

http://www.gardenbuddies.com/forums/nature-gallery/1785-macr...

This one includes his and a photo by another poster pixc. There are a couple of talented photographers there.

I bought a perennial fennel yesterday from Atlock Farm because it was infested with a caterpillar. I'll try to get a shot tomorrow and maybe someone here can identify it.
