![]() It happens in a flash, but the memory of it last forever. It can not be borrowed or stolen, and it is of no earthly good until it is given away. So if in your hurry you meet someone who is too weary to smile, leave him one of yours, for no one needs a smile quite as much as he who has none to give... |

I can only imagine! That's a relatively quick turnaround, considering the extensive nature of your decor! Can't wait to see your Christmas show for this year! ![]() Breathe in, Breathe out...Move on - Jimmy Buffett |

No kidding, then you spend a lot of summer working on new pieces too! Ms. Lucky to Get a wreath up here, it boggles my mind! My folks decorated for Christmas like crazy though and now my whole basement is full of boxes of Christmas stuff to go through so since that is on my agenda, I just may do more this year (or maybe I should just ship it all out to YOU)!!!! ![]() Woman on the eastbound train ...........................................Je Suis Désolé. We used to love to go downtown for Christmas season because (before malls) all the department stores lined Wisconsin Avenue (main strip downtown). They had such fabulous mechanised displays in every window that entire evenings could be spent. Of course the stores were open too with more displays inside. We'd bundle up in warm wool coats and muffs, get hot chocolate from street vendors, put money into Salvation Army Kettles and hear bells and carolers (all this and no one got shot!). My folks were inspired to decorate like crazy inside and out and over the years dad did several of his own mechanized displays for the big picture window. The cutest I remember was when mom made my '3 yr. old walking doll' (remember those?) a santa suit. Dad built her a red ladder that she stood on next to a white flocked tree with red satin balls and silver bows. I don't know how dad wired it up but he got 2 elves that would each hand her Christmas ornaments and she would put them on the tree. Of course each only had one red satin ball ornament (including her) but dad had their arms moving in sync so as an elf reached up, she would reach down, then up to the tree, then down for another. The tree had an undecorated section that was on the bias and the tree rotated so it really did look like they were decorating. Lights??? I've got more tangled strands than I want to deal with but those are the cheap ones that I bought for mom's porch when she lived in assisted. What I DO have though is boxes of those old outdoor lights with the real bulbs and sockets. I wonder if they have some value somewhere. Lots of floods and old ornaments too...(years and years of 'collection') just have to get it all organized. Wish you were here! ![]() Woman on the eastbound train ...........................................Je Suis Désolé. (also a mule lovin', Charley huggin' girl) |

I too remember going downtown to see the Christmas displays. Pomeroy's had mechanized displays high tech for those days. It was always so much fun and Mom would take me inside to the Tea Room that overlooked the sales floor. I would have hot chocolate. Life is Great! Yep! All the big department stores had some kind of 'tea room' or restaurant. It kept shoppers in the store or even attracted them to it. (And a real candy area with samples...yum!) Even in the early 70s when I was working, the 'girls' would go up to Gimbels (which was in a nearby mall by then) because their lunch counter had such good salads. Then, especially for holidays, we would shop or at least look and get ideas on the way in and out. Woman on the eastbound train ...........................................Je Suis Désolé.
