What a lovely photo of Inky! Thanks for the way you share him with all of us, Jae. Just an FYI about thread length... Dave recently made an upgrade to Cubits so that threads can be long long long without affecting download speed, even for those on dial-up. Threads are now in "pages," and pages are downloaded one at a time. I think the default is 20 posts per page, so even if you're on dialup, it should be really quick now. I've got a pretty fast connection, so I'd rather see threads in their entirety or at least as really long "pages," so I went to "preferences" and chose 500 posts per page. :-) That means that there's no longer a *need* to start new threads after 200 or so posts, although you may still want more current discussion to be on a new thread rather than just on the most recent "page." Critter, Thanks for the explanation. We do fully understand how the new page feature works. When Dave first introduced the feature our admin team discussed the pros and cons of it. We concluded that for the purposes of the ways most of our members use our threads, that our present system of thread management better serves everyone's needs. People constantly complain about the very long threads and how difficult it is to go back and find anything in them. Having threads with the date on them of a much shorter length makes the searches much easier. Not everyone is willing to set their page views to the same length, so under Dave's system, we wouldn't even be able to tell someone where to look on a thread for a particular item. We cap all threads somewhere between 125 to 200 posts depending upon the number of photos contained on the threads. We had group discussions with the members here on the threads at the time of the change, and just about every poster wanted to stick with the present system.
